Looking for IKEA BEKANT Standing Desk Owners

Any Australian BEKANT standing desk owners here, specifically the larger 160x80 cm size? Have you noticed your BEKANT wobble at any height, like when you type or mouse around, do you see your monitors/computer/anything wobble?

Would love to hear your feedback as the internet has absolutely crucified this desk. However, there are (at least) 2 different build designs, Australia's product differs from the US version. So we must take reviews, especially the BTOD review, with a grain of salt.

There are probably thousands of happy Australian BEKANT users out there…where you at?

I had the bekant for 2 weeks, used it maybe 3-5 days, a total of about 20-30 uses of the low high buttons. Then the motor broke. Ikea not very helpful, they had to order parts from overseas wait time 3 weeks. Refunded. The table top is attached to the frame in a not very sturdy manner, I was asking myself how long before it became wobbly. Fortunately it broke and I never had to find out. I got the manual one. Still somewhat flimsy top, but at least much cheaper.

    • Thanks! Dismantling and returning the desk doesn't sound very fun. Does your manual desk wobble when it's in standing position and you're typing? Would you say you use the standing feature less because it's manual?

I definitely use my standing desk less because it is manual.

        • Pretty sure I'd be the same tbh. Are you considering a powered standing desk?

The manual is not too wobbly, but definitely not a kind of desk you could sit on. Mine is mostly left in elevated position as it takes forever to wind it up or down. The electric was much easier and faster. But I wouldn’t buy the bekant for sure.

It doesn't take forever. Like sure it takes longer but about 45 seconds of winding to get it up/down. It's not the end of the world.

I have been more than happy with the manual version

I bought the Bekant underframe back in March and attached my old desk/table top to it (180 x 60). Has worked perfectly since then. Goes up & down at least twice a day. No wobbles when it's fully extended, just gotta be careful with your wiring - make sure there's enough slack..

    • did you drill the holes yourself into your table top? how difficult was that?

Yep not that hard at all. I found this guide that helped a little, but basically put together the frame (without the legs!) and mark out the holes that way.

        • great site, thanks!

Just brought the 1200 X 800 top is very flimsy. I broke it the first time I put it together. Returned and got a replacement no questions asked. (IKEA family benifits)
It's pretty solid. It does shake pretty violently when first pressing the button for up or down. Seems less stable front to back than left to right.
