Doppler for Pregnant Woman

Hi.

Does anyone know of a cheap, amateur garden-variety Doppler for listening to a pregnant woman's stomach?

To hear the fetal heartbeat, etc

Like the Midwives and Obsterricans in Hospitals, but not as expensive.

Any recommendations?

    Why? 🤔

Don’t you get to hear it whilst doing the ultrasound scan?

      Yes.

But we want to hear it at other times, too.

      Not just the Ultrasound.

My wife has a high-risk pregnancy.

        🤞

If you were able to hear regularly, how does that help? Do you plan to call your obstetrician if something doesn’t sound right? Not sure if knowing would decrease or increase anxiety.

          Neither.

Just wanting to hear the gentle soothing sounds of our unborn spawns rhythmic heartbeat.

@nilesstandish: Took me a long time to learn.

Don't go looking for problems when you're not in a position to fix them.

      Have you bought this?

      Is this a good one?

What are the problems with it???

Recommendations from Actual Bought devices would be great!

it’s tempting but avoid it. The reason is you’re not qualified to use this device and chances of panicking for false negatives is far too high (which is not a good thing for the foetus and the mother)

If she s a high risk one, i would not recommend it. First, it s already stressfull to know that you are high risk and second if you don't know how to use it , it can cause more harm than anything. I know some first time parents who use to listen the placenta thinking it was the heartbeat as both sound almost the same . If your wife is high risk, she need a good obstetrician to follow her, to listen her and she need to follow what drs tell her and listen her own body and not trust medical device she s not trained to use. Believe me, there s nothing more frightening than the feeling of being nearly at the end and almost lost this most precious gift.
    Congrats .

Totally agree , don't get this . You are unnecessarily inviting more stress if you dont hold the device in the right place and then cant hear the heartbeat. Just tell your wife to keep note of how often the baby moves and kicks. If you haven't felt the baby move in an hr then head to the ER for for a emergency scan or call up your obstetrician.

  • Why not just use a stethoscope?

    But I think it’s a bad idea

OP- you do whatever is most likely to help your wife feel more comfortable. I just want to wish you the best of luck, can be a very stressful time. Hope it works out great.

  • Thanks for all your comments guys.

  • My wife bought an app on the AppStore when she was pregnant last year. It uses the mic on your phone to amplify and record the heartbeat.

It took us a few tries to find the right spot but it worked very well when we did find it. The recording function was also good to send to family.

    • Nice!

Any idea of the Apps' name?
