NetGear Orbi RBK 50 VOIP

Hi Guys, I'm wondering if anyone can help me out.

I have bought 2 X Netgear Orbi RBK 50s to cover the house that I've got - its built with concrete and rebar hence requiring extra units for signal penetration.

I'm wondering if its possible to configure my WIFI to use VOIP support - we intend to have about 6 phones in total with conference abilities to allow conversation between all parties.

Also wondering if its possible to configure VOIP so that it runs on local WIFI as I'm not sure our local internet provider has VOIP.

And in case you guys were wondering, yes, we live in Indonesia. =) No luck with getting the awesome NBN speeds we have back home. That in most cases run close to our previous ADSL 2 speeds.

Many Thanks!

  • Hi,
I dont have Orbi, but I do want to comment about the VOIP.
I dont think any of Indo ISP are selling VOIP numbers. So, I pressume with VOIP, you will be using Australian number? Correct? Depending on what your intention is, you can set up VOIP seven without having an Australian number.
Regarding connecting 6 phones, why not use the 3cx? and you can use android/iphone as an extension too and you can call each other, in addition to being able to call AU numbers (or even international number - including calling locally in Indonesia).
DECT phones are so old school these days..
Watch this youtube for more info.

(the above are just an example to illustrate the use of 3cx. You also dont need a rapberry pi if you dont have one overthere, just use the existing set up of 3cx).

  • Sorry I'm a newbie to all this. Whats 3cx? And how can I setup voip on my home WiFi without going through the Internet?
