Oricom CB Radio UHF380 390 395 Comparison

I'm looking to purchase a CB radio as I'm a full time traveller with a caravan.

I like the look of the Oricom uhf380/uhf390/uhf395
But trying to understand the difference.

Looks like the uhf380 doesn't have a speaker in the base unit.

The layout is a bit different in the UHF390 is it more rugged.

4wd Supercentre /Kings are doing the 380 in a bundle with an anu200 antenna and a z mount bracket for $299

But I could pick up the 390 online or from Repco and buy an antenna separately for around the same price.

Any advice re models and antennas would be much appreciated

Question - are you going remote areas, or just highway comms only?

If your a regular traveler on the road, go with something of quality.. I've had Uniden, GME and Icom, and the Icom I picked up second hand, and is fantastic… Just as good as the GME TX3800 running 25w.

Just as important as the radio is the aerial

When you want it to work, saving a few $ doesn't seem like a great idea :)

I bought all but the last one from prestige comms in perth.

    YMMV

      +1 for Prestige Comms!

  • They all look basically the same. Biggest difference seems to be the 380 is only available as a pack exclusive to 4WD Supacentre and the 395 is exclusive to Supercheap Auto.

You don't need a speaker in the base unit as it's likely going to be installed up under the dash or something where most of the sound will be blocked anyway. Speaker on the mic unit is fine unless you plan on having it sitting in the glovebox or something.

Never used Oricom so can't really comment. Have only used GME or Uniden. Antenna needs to be matched to your needs and mounting location.
