has anyone had recent experience using boost sim in a telstra locked phone. parents need a new phone and was possibly going to suggest to them to get a coles or woolworths special.

That's not always the case though.
I know a Telstra locked phone won’t work with an Aldi sim. Aldi is Telstra too

Not always, if it's like a cheap ZTE it will be Telstra ONLY I had to pay to use boost

Well I'm not sure but I've bought a cheap Telstra phone before and it would not take anything but Telstra, had to get it unlocked to use BOOST & cost $25…
Boost is Telstra. It will work.
