  • I wish Korean films would make high quality English dubs for their films. My blind uncle, before he died, wanted to see Parasite. But there was never a version with dub or audio descriptions released before he died. So many blind people in the world missing out because they can't learn a new language just for one movie.

    • Be fair, translating Korean to English is a painful process. My brother used to translate documents and subtitles as a part-time job and I used to give him a hand.
Translating without losing much meaning is difficult, let alone fitting it all in the required space.

I wouldn't want to be the person who has to do translation for dubbing is all I wanted to say.

      • They could still have released a temporary dub for now, in time for the oscar buzz, and then later on finish their really faithful dub.

  • I always wonder why don't all these movies festivals upload their movies to YouTube? If it is time limited, just delete the video after the festival ends?

YouTube can be played anywhere, by anyone, on any device, no need to worry about security, bandwidth etc.

Nah, gotta use some proprietary player and servers that gonna end up buffering the video forever!!!!111

"My blind uncle, before he died, wanted to see Parasite" huh

IMHO he missed nothing (ducks from the wrath of Kdrama fans everywhere), aside from the extremely well done torrential rain scenes I thought it was very contrived and ordinary, could only watch 75%.

Although I loath dubs I fully agree with oversimplified, until you try doing it (and near well) you can have no idea of the work needed to do a (near well done) translation - which IMHO is what you would have wanted for your uncle…..and especially Asian to English.
