AF-S Nikon 24-70mm, F2.8g ED Lens at JB Hi-Fi - $1999 (in Store Only)

120

A preofessional Nikkor lens retails 15% below regular store price.
These sell at Teds, Camera Warehouse $2299. I am sure you will get a discount if you go to store.
Sold in the US by B&H for $1890, so given $ conversion, a really good deal.
This is not a grey import either, I had the salesman open the box and check the warranty card, Nikon Australia Warranty. If you are a camera fan I don’t need to tell you that this is one of the best normal zooms ever made.
This is a great bargain! I was told to grab two by the Teds salesman, they are also in short supply due to floods in Thailand.

    $1948.00 here http://camerapro.net.au/nikon-2470mm-f28g-australian-stock-s…
plus $19- post or pickup in store. Also try Michaels for a price match.

    • Import & GST costs possibly added to this price imo do not make this a better deal. Plus this doesn't have a Nikon warranty.

      • lenses have international warranty afaik

        • Nikon International warranty doesn't work like what you believe it does…. :)

  • I have seen some cheaper grey imports as well, but its nice to be able to go to a real store.
Anyhow I know the JB guy was really keen and it looked like he would drop the price by at least $100 is I was going to wip out my CC

If I'm spending this amount I would also prefer it to be a real camera store. Try buying some of the common accessories at JB's such as filters and batteries.

  • +1

While I agree its considered a great lens, this lens was made for a FX camera and its a waste of money to throw it on a DX.

Just saying…because you say "is one of the best normal zooms ever made"

    MUCH cheaper here : 0 )

Yes, this lens is made for a FX body, and will give the best results there, but unfortunately there are no F2.8 lenses made for a DX body only. Low light and portraits need that large aperature.

    • +1

That's no sence. There is a nikkor 17-55 f2.8 just for dx

Which is the one I am using atm

      • You are right! my bad
It retails in US for $1400

This lens is made in Japan so there's nothing to do with the flood in Thailand :)

    • Apparently parts come from Thiland??

    • +1

Japan has had its own issues.

  • I bought the same item 3 months ago at JB Hifi in Queen Victoria for 2,000.00 including 2 years extension warranty + 1 year manufacturer's warranty. I'm happy with it.

    • Prices have gone up, presuimably due to the Aus Dollar going down.

  • Not a bad price for Nikon Australia warranty.

What I find peculiar is that this lens is supposedly Made in Japan and we have seen the price of the lens shoot right up during the aftermath of the March tsunami. I wonder how the Thailand floods affect this though? Perhaps they source some of the components from Thailand.

    • Apparently so

I was told to grab two by the Teds salesman

Tell him you will be grabbing three. Teds is always overpriced and their salesman are d!cks h3@ds.

    • yes, they are pathetic.

      • +1

I coundnt agree more. They make a huge markups, and give bad advice.

  • Salesman at JB offered me 1950 a few months back without even trying. I'm sure they'll do 1900 + bonuses if you work hard.

    http://www.topbuy.com.au/tbcart/pc/Nikon-AF-S-NIKKOR-24-70mm…

$1600 + probably $70 shipping fee with international warranty with all lens - that means Australian Warranty.

    • +1

It has $155 fixed price shipping. Again, as this is probably shipped in, the possibility of taxes being imposed as it is over $1000.

    • You're confused the warranty between Nikon warranty and third party (Mack, store) warranty. Topbuy only offer the latter.

      • -1

Nikon lenses come with international warranty. You can get your grey imports serviced by Nikon Australia.

        http://ww2.nikon.com.au/warranty.php

        • The warranty terms is very gray. This could mean if you buy a Nikon lens in Australia, then it will be covered overseas and not the other way around.

        • Totally wrong Sharp. Nikon lenses comes with both local and international warranties. I've bought all my lenses overseas (HK, Taiwan and USA) and in all cases had to be careful to make sure I was getting one with an international warranty (i.e. get them to show you the warranty card before handing over the cash).

  • Which stores have stock? I can't image a high end item such as this would be stocked in every JB store.

  • I tend to like Ken Rockwell's reviews. He recommends the Nikon 18-200 over this lens. I took Ken's advice and overall, the 18-200 is a jack of all trades (very versatile) and 1/2 the price!! I bought the 18-200 instead :)

Price for this lens seems good.

    DeWalt

    • Better Bokeh on 24-70 :)

You're free to like Ken Rockwell's reviews, bt you should be aware many people think his reviews aren't worth the space they take up on the internet. For example, I think he reviewed the 40mm DX Macro lens the day it was annoucned before anyone had seen it. That is, he did a review of the published informtation from Nikon only.

I've had the 18-200 before and I currenrtly have the 24-70. They are two completely different lenses and server different purposes. But, in terms of image quality, the 24-70 just kills it, and is weather sealed, constant bright aperture… you're comapring a professional lens to an enthusiast one.

For DX users, maybe not a great choice. For anyone planning or with FX, a great choice… but I don't thik I would buy it again. I'm happy with it… but tend to reach for my nifty 50 and the 70-200 more. I'd put the money towards quality primes and the lovely 70-200 first.

  • The 24-70 mm is a nice piece of glass, and it a different class. 18-200 is really versatile, great for travel etc, but it has some nasty distortion and aberration.. Primes are always the best, and I also love my 50mm f1.4, but with this one I can zoom and I can still get f2.8. I am planning to upgrade to FX body and see this lens as a investment.

By the way, JB can do this for $1800 in store for $1800 :-)

  • I am aiming to get the 24-70; 70-200; and the 105mm macro. I have not yet made a move and remain drooling over these lenses.
