Selling My Registered Car without Roadworthy

Hi everyone,

Hope yall are doing well and are safe!

Just need some input regarding the selling of my vehicle.

I am selling my old car with registration however the buyer agreed to do RWC himself after the transfer of vehicle is done.

How can I make sure I sell it and not fall into trouble from getting fines etc, from the point the buyer takes the car over and hopefully gets RWC and puts it under their name?

Please help me out, as I am new to all this, selling my first car.

Thanks in advance

Pula

I'm not sure what state you are in? I'm assuming VIC?

BUT please make sure to view their identification and write out a bill of sale with the cars registration or VIN number details, the date, the time, and everybody must sign.

I'm assuming that it is unregistered there might not be any registration papers so if not write out the bill of sale like any normal contract.

    Good luck.

      Hi mate,

      I am located in VIC.

I am selling the car with rego till Feb, however, the buyer wants to do the RWC himself after taking it from me.

After I write out a bill of sale with the cars registration or VIN number details, the date, the time, and both parties sign, do I head to VicRoads straight and give them a copy of it?

        VIN number

Fixed that for both of you…

And don’t forget the notice of disposal and inform VicRoads as soon as it has been sold.

You can do it online and you can find out how to do it by following “step 5” on the VicRoads website

Well in SA we are given 14 days but the sooner the better to give them the information, if it is registered then you should fill out transfer of ownership??

I'm not exactly sure but I think they have like 30 days to get the RWC into their name?

This isn’t a problem in most states, but the rules are different in VIC. Don’t be misled by answers for other states, as people will see your profile says NSW.

Make sure your cover your by getting all the details of the buyer. I made the same mistake a few years ago when i sold my honda ( and left the plates on them) to some kids who didn't bother to transfer it across. Over the course of 3-6 months I got over 20+ toll fines, 2 speeding tickets and a red light camera. Pretty sure the total cost of those fines were more than the actual sale price of the car.

hope you didn't have to pay that yourself brother

      • no, but it was a pain in the ass having to re-submit the tolls to the buyers.

I think you should sell it with RWC if it has rego and not unregistered (https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/registration/buy-sell-or-tra…)

Remove the number plates and tell the buyer to get a temporary permit to prepare it for RWC.

This is the only safe option.

I would take most of this forums input as well as mine with a grain of salt and contact your local authority, I am not telling you to dismiss the information posted in here but get an official answer from a proper authority, this is the only way to be sure.

There is literally three replies in here that all have the correct links to the relevant state's official answers on what to do when transferring registration and ownership of a vehicle…

I'm curious, what information offered here do you think needs to be taken with a grain of salt and is factually incorrect?

Do you go around looking for things to diagree with?
First this, and now you're pretty much bagging out the forum users.
Time for you to go punch another one and relax dude…

I think you're the one who probably doesn't know what sarcasm is.
AllI have to do is look at all these negative posts from your earlier thread.

You know what they say.. If you go somewhere and someone doesn't like you, then they're probably just a dick. But if you go somewhere and no-one likes you, then you're probably the…. (now, think about that for a second!)

Check out their oMg NeW Xb0x cOmiNg!!¡!¡ thread. I think they post comments and threads just to argue with people. When they are called out on it it's always "I can see you don't understand sarcasm." line when it clearly isn't sarcasm…

Added to your "if you meet one (fropanity) a day…" comment, comes this "I was only joking" comment to cement it home…

@bobbified: Lol. Didn’t want that, but the guy needed a reality check.

Guess I’ll need to visit ProductReview and sort by newest…

                    Edit: top kek…
