Recommendations for a Durable Office Chair

I am looking to get a durable, leather office chair and I am willing to pay for a chair that will last. I had a hugely comfortable chair that went to bits after a couple of years.

What I am looking for:
Leather (not faux leather)
Padded (not mesh) - I need to be able to sit in it all day comfortably
Solid frame (so not plastic) - needs to be able to manage 80kg
Height Adjustable
High back/ Head Rest - I am almost 180cm tall
Arm Rests

I realise most chairs even plastic can manage 80kg but I am wondering if my previous plastic chair broke so quickly because of weight. Plus there are environmental considerations with plastic as well.

I do do gaming as well as work but I have heard most gaming chairs are really bad for your back so I am keen to avoid gaming chairs.

All that said does any one have any recommendations? Personal or just general things I should know.

  • There's plenty of forum posts on this topic, did you read those?

    You've also not specified any budget…$200? $500? $1000? $2000?

It's normally a good idea to go visit a few office furniture stores and try some.

I have a Herman Miller Mirra 2, it has been the best thing I have done for my back. Years of working in office's and going through chairs maybe I am too heavy at 100+, 6,2" for them. No problems with HM I know its not leather but the mesh is fantasic, probably breathes more too

    • Hey FreshPrince, where did you buy your chair from. Mirra seems more affordable then their Embody.

I got it from living edge $1,290 + $50 delivery.

I actually went to a shop and tried it out and wanted to buy but the guy there didn’t think I should spend my money on it… it was June 30 and I was ready to pull the trigger so went home and bought online. He just would sell me a chair… old man.

The embody is nice, but the suspension in this chair has been a life saver on my coccyx which was a pain area. I have arms on mine but at work (new place) no arms and it’s just as good.

        • Hey FreshPrince, thanks for the reply mate. I think I am going to stay away from Embody, from Livingedge its like 2-3K. I am tossing between Mirra and Aeron. I just hope there is some black friday sales , im sick of sitting on my bicep curl stool.

          • @kennyshin: damn they went up a fair bit since I got my chair, at that time emobdy was about 17-1800. I think covid/ work from home has increased prices too.

i am very happy with the mirra 2, but the aeron remastered could be better? I am 6"2 and 120kg and i fit well in the seat

  • maybe black friday sales in 2 weeks, but best to go try so you can pull the trigger if there is a price drop.

Innerspace is where i went first and thats where he didn't sell me one, in adelaide. this was 2017

    • Thanks mate, going to try them out this week. He told me the Embody new stock wont arrive till Feb which dont matter since i am deciding on either Mirra or Aeron. Thanks for your help mate. Happy Seating.
