    Make Tuffy Great Again

  • When will we start lodging formal complaints to Tuffy? How short will they go

"To answer your question, there are actually two heights for our Tuffy paper towels. To give some context, Tuffy is now produced in both NSW and QLD. Due to machine limitations and consequently raw material limitations in QLD, producing 21cm wide rolls in QLD created a lot of waste as during the converting process as the 21cm cuts left large offcuts that had to be disposed of, whilst a 20cm cut left much smaller offcuts leading to much less waste. Hence we made a decision to downsize the width of the rolls produced in QLD. In order not to give our customers less paper, rolls created in QLD have an extra 1 cm added to its height (so your shorter roll should have longer sheets).

On the other hand, Tuffy produced in NSW does not face the same machine limitations and has retained its original width and height. In order to keep the packaging consistent, the height and width advertised on our packaging is the smallest values taken from the dimensions of Tuffy created at both sites. Hence, Tuffy manufactured in QLD is 20cm in width with an extra 1 cm height and Tuffy manufactured in NSW is 21 cm in width with normal height"

    • That is indeed the case for sheet length, although whether it's the same amount of paper overall is harder to say. Unfortunately, I don't have any 21cm width rolls left for any further comparisons (the 20cm didn't seem any bulkier from casual observation). Mine were all bought in NSW, incidentally.

But I was more annoyed with the holder issue - it was actually when the same thing happened with Naturale years ago that I switched to Tuffy. Funnily enough, Naturale is now back at 21cm, although the quality of their paper towels isn't as good (maybe that's the price of its environmental credentials).

      • I can completely understand the annoyance re: no longer fitting the holder. That's painful.

Is there an adaptor or spacer to fit the holder?

Not for my ones. Just using #34 rubber bands as a makeshift solution until the rest of the Tuffy is used up and I've settled on another brand. Probably better holders out there that can adjust to a range of widths, but too much hassle to change my existing ones (got 4 mounted around the house).
