CatchOfTheDay.com.au, what if you feel like item is not genuine?????????

Hey All,

Recently I've become a big time bargain scavenger. So I bought this pair of Levi's jeans for $45 from catchoftheday. I received them yesterday and the first impression I got was "are these genuine????". Well… they've got all the right tags and codes and everything but it just didn't fell authentic, specially the material. Anyway, my questions are…

  1. Is there a way to get them checked? (i.e, can I take 'em to a levi store and ask)
  2. What if I find they are not genuine? Can I request for a refund?
  3. Has any of you caught the same deal from catchoftheday and thinking the same thing that I'm thinking?

Comments

  • I agree, I purchased the 511 slim levi's, it does not feel genuine at all, the quality is just not there.

    • Think I'm gonna try finding the same thing in a retail shop today and check.

  • There are two types of Levi's - Mexico and Other.
Next time I'm alone I'll check where the pair I'm wearing now (purchased in LA) were made.

  • I have 2 other Levi 511 jeans that I purchased at General Pants, they are both made in China.

The one I received from COTD is made in Mexico.

I was in a similar situation with COTD once. I got some work shirt from them which they advertised to be KING GEE. Turned out with was another brand manufactured by the same company making KING GEE but not the same quality and price they claimed. I contacted PACIFIC BRANDS who are the manufacturers and they i think contacted COTD cos they were furious. I was given a refund for the items. I also let ACCC know just in case.

  • Sometimes brands are made for other markets, especially Asia, and the quality is much lower (so it can be sold there for a lower price). It might still be genuine but was never meant to be sold in Australia.

    • the clothing you buy from outlets (DFO etc..) thinking they are the same quality which sells in flagship stores. They are not the same quality. brand owners specially makes lower quality products for outlets. don't be fooled thinking these are out of season stock that goes to outlets therefore you are getting a bargain.

  • Seems like I better do a bit of research on this. For a fact I know that COTD does a lot of grey import, that's how they sell some items way cheaper. I don't mind grey imports as long as they are genuine. However if the items are from some back yard shop I'll be furious. Ordered this SUPPOSEDLY genuine swarovski jewellery from them while I was waiting for my jeans and I just hope they are not from that "swarovskiaustralia.com" fake site. Will see.

    • I will be interested to know your results.
I was overseas and bought a Levis jeans from a retailer ( around $20). It costed around $80 in the levi's store. Stickers, tags and buttons were exactly similar. Quality of cloth was tricky. I went to Levi's store and they confirmed it was not genuine.
So for genuine stuff, I recommend dont rely on dodgy retailers or online sellers. COTD has good selling capacity, where customers are expecting cheap products. Importing these goods are based on the suppliers supplying to COTD and they can be dodgy.
Anyone having something in bulk to sell can contact COTD and COTD can sell that taking their margin.

Said that, I think COTD sells products mostly which are: Cancelled orders, refurbished, Not genuine, cancelled orders due to quality issues.

At the end you get what you paid for.

  • this would be along the same lines of parallel imports with foods… stores source the cheaper version… ?

  • I bought some Levi's shorts while overseas in my country and they feel great! but yeah, you'd be forgiven for thinking that some of the products that have the brand names on them don't 'feel' genuine at all? (i've got a Speedo brand pair of shorts can you believe it?) LOL

    Hi all.

My name is Jen, I work for Catch of the Day as a Social Media Analyst. There have been a few questions about the authenticity of the Levi jeans we sold, I can confirm that:

    1. The Levi jeans were supplied to us by a reputable supplier that has previously sold authentic Levi jeans to us; and
    2. We possess a sanitised copy of the Invoice generated by Levi Strauss for this stock.

In the past fortnight we have sold over 12,000 Levi jeans. Our CIO personally inspected a small sample of Levi jeans in our warehouse and all inspected Levi jeans contain reference numbers on the label for Levi quality control purposes. All stock personally inspected was high quality and made in Cambodia or Mexico.

If you have concerns with the quality of the Levi jeans, please do not hesitate to contact our Help Centre. Obviously, if you do not receive a response to your satisfaction, please do not hesitate to email me directly at [email protected]

As a sidenote, Levi jeans manufacture their jeans across a number of factories around the world (See Factory List at http://www.levistrauss.com/library). I understand that they also take product quality very seriously and you can raise any feedback via their website: http://www.levistrauss.com/about/helpcontact-us

If I can be of any assistance please feel free to email me :)

    Kind Regards,
    Jen

  • guys remember, cotd bought the item from close shop etc, so their cost price is much cheaper than they bought the new item directly from the supplier directly. i don't think they are so stupid dare to sell fake item in australi in big quantity, they might get sue from the brand holder
