NVMe for Photo Work

I have a 500gb ssd from maybe 5yr ago? I dunno. I have hdd as well for data, so I'm using 350gb of the ssd. Long term stuff is on NAS.
Doing much photo editing, on LR & PS. Not huge files.

Looking to get a NVMe so I can do a fresh install. What should I look at for good value but to also see a difference after the upgrade?

After upgrade it will be
NVMe = boot + working
ssd = storage
hdd = ?? backup?

    Your mobo from five years ago even have a nvme slot? I use a 2tb sabrant rocket, and a 1tb crucial P1 just for file storage. I don't like that the P1 is slower than the rocket, even with super caching enabled.

    Make your drive big enough to have a lot of spare space for Adobe to breath with and you'll be fine.

    • It's a msi z370m mortar
      it says m.2 nvme on the specs, tho maybe I"ll have a peek inside to be sure.
      all my stuff is on nas, so I don't need a huge drive
      what should I look for?

      • I put my project files on another nvme drive so they could back up to the cloud and still be speedy. Also then it wouldn’t matter if the drive experiences power outage and data loss. Adobe backs up to the cloud too in 2021.

        On the main nvme drive I got as big and fast as I could reasonably afford. That’s what Adobe will use for scratch disc so you’ll want to leave at least a certain amount of GB free per Adobe app. I’ve had no problems with leaving messy projects open and it’s nice to leave all the Adobe apps open because they are constantly updating reference files. I have 32GB of ram as well. I don’t know if any of it necessary, I just know loading screens and little delays really piss me off when I’m trying to get stuff done. I really need everything to be as instant as possible. And I don’t like having to close projects just to open a game or two in the background.

        • Yeah sometimes Adobe just paused for a minute for no reason. Have 32 ram now too.

          I'm not sure what to look for in a drive. Is it random speed? Once I get this I can use the ssd for scratch too.

          • @furyou: I just chose the Rocket because it seemed to compare favourably with the popular Samsung midrange performance nvme drive, only it was cheaper.

            • @AustriaBargain: I don't even know how to choose. There seems to be dozens of versions of every model.
