My Xiaomi hub died. Adding a power supply like this page did not help

Now I want to buy a replacement which would work with all my older sensors. This Xiaomi one wanted to set the country to Mainland China so I would prefer if there is something that is not country dependent but still controllable on mobile.

I have the same kit. I think I connected my PowerPoint to an Amazon Echo Plus. Although I've heard of issues getting Xiaomi stuff to connect to non Xiaomi hubs. I haven't tried my other bits with the Echo Plus though.
