Friends son is into skateboarding and wants a Go Pro style action camera. Of course Go Pro version 9 etc. is $500.
Can anyone recommend something with accessories e.g. helmet attachment etc. in the $100-$150 range?
There are tons of no-name items on eBay and Amazon. If someone has experience of a particular item and can recommend please link. Not expecting the world - just trying to work out which one is the pick of the inexpensive bunch.

Maybe have a look at the Mobius range? I haven't looked at them for some time but have one of the older models and they were surprisingly good for the price. You're definitely not going to get Go Pro quality or features but it's at least within your budget.
Go Pro 3 / plus might be worth looking into. Can be had around the low $100s on Gumtree with accessories. Video quality is also a known quantity with tons of samples on YouTube.
Agree - have seen a GP 4 silver for $150 and a 4 black with accessories for $180 on Fb market

Just be aware that the Insta Go works a bit different from normal action cams. You press a button and it'll record 15, 30 or 60 second clips depending on what you set it to - which is probably good for skateboarding type recording.

You want something that is light and thin for minimal wind resistance. I bought a Sony HDR-AS50 a few years ago and the picture quality 1080p is excellent, especially when played back on a Sony TV.

Ignoring the part about Sony TVs, I can also vouch for the Sony model listed as decent sub-$200 option, with a solid brand name attached rather than the no name alternatives.

I had a SJCAM3000 long time ago (in 2015). It was good for the price at that time. Sorry I don't have any experience on later models.

You get what you pay for with these things. JB Hifi have a couple of own brand low quality ones for cheap but reviews are generally terrible. Should be good enough for kids use and better than random eBay ones.
