Nick Scali Electric Recliner Lounges

I really want to buy an electric recliner couch from Nick Scali, probably a 2 seater and their pricing is quite good right now.

Does anyone know if it improves after xmas?

Also does anyone know the difference between electric recliner and battery recliner? Is the battery rechargeable?

  • generally their sale prices are the same year round in my limited experience from last year (was hoping for boxing day sale etc but it was just normal sale pricing…)

    • Hmm might have to go in and hustle them then.

      • Good luck, every time I’ve tried it’s zero negotiation

    • Agreed here, NS prices are same through out the year and haggling with them wont yield any results.

  • +3

I've only ever gone into their store once, got about 20ft inside before I saw the prices were not realistic. but that was several years ago… never been back.

    • A lot of the leather electric lounges are quite decently priced tbh.
I too recall seeing ridiculous prices when I was younger, but seems a lot more competitive!

  • Haggling at Nick Scali is impossible.

I've been on the search for various items of furniture over the years & the marked prices of their product is firm - especially those products on sale. If you like something in their shop & its not on sale (but pretty much everything is all year round) then there may be haggling room but that's it.

Leather lounges are always on sale - they just rotate which range are getting the discounts for each campaign.

If you like a lounge and it seems like a good price its not gonna get any cheaper if it's already at 50%. If its at 30% off, then maybe there'll be a future campaign that discounts it further but not only do we don't know when & how much, the staff don't know either (I've asked multiple times).

  • Plenty of other stores around selling furniture.

    • But an ivory leather 2 seater with electric recliner?

      • Electric recliners are everywhere now, they are nearly the new normal. with USB chargers, cup holders, massage etc.. as for colours, anything is possible.

        • Got any comfy ones to recommend?

          • @pixpotato: heaps.. Hardly normal had plenty last time I was there, and most furniture places had plush lounges.. Im not in the market for one so dont take notes of whats good and whats not

but its certainly something you want to sit in yourself to see what YOU think instead of buying online. Its an investment not just a purchase.

  • Nick Scali is a tremendous business, reason they don't sell stuff at highly discounted prices or are not pressured to sell at lower price / need sales to drive growth is because they are one of the only furniture business to employ a JIT model perfectly, with a very low cost base.

They don't hold any stock in warehouses and what you see in the shops is what there is. When you order, they then order with the supplier overseas, it is made to order then shipped - hence the longer than usual delivery times. They save on all the storage costs like other furniture stores have as it is only kept in warehouse for a minimum amount of time, the shipment cost is often factored into the sale price or paid for my the supplier.

    • Not associated, I used to be a share holder for a while and have recently sold out after the Covid Rally - did a lot of research on the business model and also visited the store - didn't buy anything haha.

^ should explain why people often can't negotiate with them on prices

    • Amazing insight! Thanks! Hmm I wonder what my approach should be.

    • When you order, they then order with the supplier overseas, it is made to order then shipped - hence the longer than usual delivery times

I think I find most places do this now… certainly most in Dandenong.. you go shopping you rarely come home with the item, its always 'ordered' 6-8 weeks… :( Been there many times and done that.

      • You are right, but they often do have stock locally too.

  • I bought a corner sofa fabric with one recliner.
It is electric. I use it almost everyday and I love it

I bought it on boxing day, which was probably only the 1 of 2 sales in a year they ever have I think.

I looked at several other stores before buying, and Nick Scali had the look and recliner we were after.

And I did have to wait 3 months. I didn't mind waiting as I didnt to settle on a faster delivery sofa that was an eye sore for the next 10+ years

  • We have a 3 seater. 2 recliner and the chaise lounge to end. As we have our sofa in the middle of the family room we have the battery pack. Wife loves it. Only just recharged it after a month or so. Ours hasn't needed to be charged alot and it's used daily. The one without the battery is cheaper as you don't need to pay for a battery pack to power the motor. If you are close to a wall as lounge butts against one.

And wait time is long as others have said. I think made in Indonesia. Well our side tables from.there were

    • Thanks for clarifying the info about the battery pack! I was really intrigued!

  • Have an electric recliner 2.5 seater from NS, have had the motors replaced 3 times in 18 months along with the transformer once. Each time it takes 1-3 months for the parts/tech to fix it.

Not gonna touch NS again, super annoying considering we paid $2k+.
