2TB USB 2.0 Seagate HDD for $83.60 Price Matched at Officeworks, Chadstone VIC

Moved to Forum: Original Link

This is price-matched against the $88 price for the same HDD at Big W. I bought one of these yesterday and thought other OzBargainers might like to get this as well. This is very similar to the deal http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/57899, which has now expired, so I am posting again with all the info for people to use.

Details:
2TB Seagate USB 2.0 HDD
Original Officeworks price is $109
Big W catalogue price is $88 (on sale till November 30)
Officeworks price after price matching $83.60.

Bought from Officeworks in Chadstone, Vic. Best to confirm a store has stock before heading out, but this store had 5 more on the shelf.

Local Big W had no stock of this drive and the guy at Officeworks told me that only a few days ago these were at $88 but had now gone back to $109. At $83.60 these are pretty cheap if you need some more storage. They may not be the best drives and are only USB 2.0, but considering the current high prices they may be worthwhile.

price matching is not a bargain

    • Agree, but there are alot of first timers putting them up though

    • good price for 2Tb but still price matching not a bargain. If Big W deal has been posted, most ozbargainers would have price matched with them already

    • I understand this but thought it might be useful for others. Especially since when it was $88 there were some people stating that stock was not available.

      • post in forum, its not a bargain!

  • I tried pricematching, but the sales person told me BigW had to be in stock to price match

yeah, MSY sent flashmobs to all the BigW stores to buy them out, then sell them at $189. You should see how many units MSY has at that inflated price….predatory pricing here we come. Can't wait for the news headline "ACCC investigates price fixing in hard drive market: Synnex, MSY and others charged with collusion and price fixing".

Lateline Business estimated that hard drives should increase by 'around 10%', not 100%.

  • BUT you forgot to mention that OW Chadstone is now only price matching a maximum of 2 units with regard to desktop hard drives. Not sure if its strict policy or their on the fly policy. That's what they told me on price matching these drives last week (7200rpm units too!)

  • should be post in forum!

  • Bought a couple of these when BigW had them for $68 on a 1hr special. Performing well. Copying small files nonstop for 10hrs or so no hiccups in 25C.

  • Price matching is not deal and should not be posted as one, as per our guidelines.

    Moving to forums.

  • thanks for the headsup.
I'm in need of a 2gb hdd.. good price.

I've got a 2gb hdd I can sell for about $30 if you are interested. cheaper than this.

      • thanks for the offer.. but this is for important data (and to match my other 2tbs in my backup system). I'd prefer to use hdds I know are factory fresh than something unknown.

i don't suppose yours is from the umart flood sale? =)

p.s. I never sell my old hdds.. too paranoid
