Cheap Snow Foam Solution For Your Car Wash ~$73 (Homelite Pressure Washer)

For anyone interested in an ultra cheap snow foam solution, this entire kit cost $73 (AUD) and that's including the pressure washer too. I'm sure it's not quite comparable to the ridiculously thick snow foam from more expensive solutions, but it's not far off in my opinion. And it's $73 vs $200+ 🤔 As a pre wash solution, I know what I'm going with. Not a super detailed vid but you get the idea.

For anyone interested:

$48 - Homelite Pressure Washer from Bunnings (on sale for $39 in the past)
$25 - Generic Snow Lance from eBay (it uses the same adaptor as Black and Decker, AR Blue Clean)

I also used Meguiar's Ultimate Wash and Wax which doesn't produce the thickest foam, so using something like Bowden's Own Snow Job which is made for snow foaming would produce even better results!

  • Snow Job… 🤨

But seriously what does the snow/foam do?? How exactly does it clean better than just regular soap?

I don't think it necessarily cleans any better. To be honest it's almost a gimmick and most people use this as a pre-wash before actually giving it a proper wash. Or I've read some people do this as a weekly maintenance wash which is fast and hands off, especially if you also have an air blower to dry the car. No touching of the car = no scratches.

I don't have a air blower so the benefits for me is that it's a bit less laborious and strangely therapeutic. Using the pressure hose to douse the car in shampoo is easier than running back and forth to the bucket and soaping up the wash mitt. So my wash routine will be:

      1) Use pressure washer to give the car a rinse off.
      2) Cover the car in snow foam and let is set for 5-10 mins.
      3) Do a second pass of snow foam and then run my wash mitt over the car to give it a gentle scrub. This step is still unavoidable unfortunately.
      4) Rinse off with pressure washer.
      5) Dry.

I'm not much of a car detailer so yeh I'm sure others can suggest their routines.

      • Hey AcousticJZ, thanks for this post. What car shampoo were you using ?

No probs. Thought someone else might find it useful.

I was using Meguiar's Ultimate Wash and Wax. It does a decent job but isn't actually designed for snow foam. Shampoo's such as Bowden's Snow Job would produce thicker foam that will cling for longer.

          • @AcousticJZ: Thanks Mate ! You’re a legend.. I have been looking for a pressure washer. This is a great option. Cost effective.

      It's step 1 in cleaning.

Rather than going over the car with a sponge straight away, this method lets the car get covered in soap which carries all the big stuff away. You then rinse it and do a normal wash.

If you just sponge the car straight away, you're scraping all the particles against the paint and causing scratches.

      • Though that's exactly how the traditional bucket wash is done, you sponge the car straight away.

Imo the benefit of my routine is that you get a 5-10 minute soak, which a traditional bucket wash lacks. Then applying the sponge would in theory be less likely to scratch than the traditional method.

But yep, totally get what you're saying and agree that your suggestion would yield superior results, the overhead is too much for me personally.

  • does the snow lance kit from ebay come with the right adaptor? Can't seem to find the right one

  • It looks like a cool “shampoo” treatment for the car

  • I bought a cheap homelite pressure washer a while back and took it back after one use. Gave about as much pressure as sticking your finger over the end of the hose

    • Oh really? I thought it was pretty powerful and would be scared to put my hand at the end of that.

  • And now you have an extra step, that is annoying to do, and doesn't make your car clean anyway.
A snow foam is literally just a pre wash, its something that if you're gonna do, you may as well do it properly IMO

  • Here's another video using Autoglym Polar Wash. Much better snowfoam with this product.

  • There are foam making things which run off your garden hose. I think Repco has them and they are about $30.00.

  • Has anyone used this pressure washer with the Bowden snow cannon + adaptor? If so how was it?
