My Experience with Kogan Mobile Right Now

So normally I have had a decent experience with Kogan Mobile over the last couple of years with their plans, however recently I ran into my first issue. So as you would, I seek help from the Kogan customer service

About 3 weeks ago, the issue was that my SIM was faulty and my phone didn't recognise that SIM. Kogan now explained to me that I had to wait 24 hours for the service to be activated and shit but that doesn't change the fact that the SIM was faulty, so I waited 24 hours and nothing changed. So I call them up again and sy that the SIM is faulty, but they are like "Yeah nah your phone's (profanity) mate, try putting it into a new phone", when clearly I have used multiple plans before and they all worked fine. It took a while until they admitted the SIM was faulty and sent me a new one, happy days…unless I thought so.

Fast Forward to yesterday where I received the SIM, I call up Kogan for the 50th time and ask them to switch my number from the old Kogan SIM to the new one I just got. The transfer seemed to go well as the SIM was being recognised this time…until I realise it's been another full 24 hours and the service hasn't been activated. So another call to Kogan to talk to them about this issue and they say this. "Oh yeah there's a network upgrade in you're area from the 9th of November and it ends today, try calling us tomorrow". They failed to mention that for the past 50 calls and I for some reason don't believe that there's actually a "network upgrade" in my area.

I'll update this post if I have any further news but I want to ask of y'all have experienced anything similar with a mobile plan?

  • Might want to re-title to my Kogan rant

    Yeah sounds pretty crap.
Personally i've been with Kogan on and off for the last 4 years and never had an issue - touch wood.
Fortunately every port has been seamless and never had to call their call centre.

  • Usually they send you a SIM card that's already activated with a voucher code to add the credit? Never had any issues before with that but the service was very slow here where I am

    • I didn't get any voucher code but instead it just transferred the credit from the original SIM to the new one

  • I had a similar issue with Aldi mobile who gave me a faulty sim, kept trying to convince me it was a fault on my end even though I tried multiple phones (this took days to troubleshoot with every bloody level of the help desk) and made me go buy a new sim to do the “lost my sim and transfer service to new sim” move. Had to do another round trip to the shops. Came home with the new sim and called up to do the transfer. They then told me that someone has transferred my service already to a new sim and put it in the mail so I had to wait because they couldn’t transfer it again until I received the mail. Waited and waited about a week. All up took me about 3 weeks to get it all sorted and all they could compensate me with was credit for the extra sim I bought and the three week period I was without a service. Nothing extra for the time it took back and forth waiting for calls and email to resolve the issue, the trip I had to do to the shops to buy a new sim and the inconvenience of not having a mobile service for 3 weeks. I am never going near Aldi mobile ever again.
