Mobile Speed Camera Warning Signs to Be Removed from NSW Roads

https://www.9news.com.au/national/nsw-speed-camera-warning-s…

Guess i will be running WAZE from the google play store full time and updating on the regular for other drivers on the road now.

Personally i feel this is just another cash grab and ultimately they want to roll out more privately owned mobile speed camera's so they can nab you anywhere at anytime without signage.

What do you all think about this? and is there anything that we can do to keep the current system how it is?

Big Daddy Government Revenue Raising Again

Comments

    • I am interested to know the same if there is any margin before you get fined?

      • I thought the margin was like 2-3km or something like that as an error assumption

Bottom line is, humans are incompetent. Future generations will not believe that humans were allowed to steer 2 tonne machines at 100kph+, often separated only by a painted line from the incompetent coming toward them at 100kph+.

Guys just an FYI please don't shine high-powered lasers at speed cameras, it will damage the sensors in them and prevent them from taking photos.

    • Thanks, will do

  • -4

Stop ya whinging people, obey the road rules, all the rules and drive appropriately. If you fail to control yourself and your vehicle, you deserve to be caught and fined. Then maybe you will learn better road sense. Every fine will hopefully work toward saving a life on the roads.

    • -2

Will you please explain your negative votes?

Or do you think it is your idiot given right to disobey the Road Rules and then whinge when you get busted…signs out or not?

I was once seriously stuck in Sydney traffic. 6 lanes like a westfield carpark on Saturday.
I popped out of my car in the outer lane to grab a drink and a pie.
Got back to the car to find a wheel clamp on it. And the most disappointing thing was the pie was $hit!

Ok, this is a bad move, i finish work late at night, there aren't many cars on the road at that time, and i always speeding (more than 10k) and also run the red light, yes, stupid red light, why stop when there is nobody on the road?
So if i ever get a ticket from mobile speed camera, im sure I'll crash the mobile speed camera, bad luck for the one who operates that camera

    • and also run the red light, yes, stupid red light, why stop when there is nobody on the road?

The point of rules and traffic lights is to make things predictable, to give you as much info as possible before you enter the Higher risk zone.

There's a chance you may meet someone who will think exactly like you, not see you and run the red light. You're not the only rule breaker, some people have a lot less to lose than you.

I check both ways before crossing the intersection, not some dumb fuk, ok?

        • not some dumb fuk

That's what they all say right before, otherwise they wouldn't have gotten into an accident lolol

  • It triggered me more that you used the word "irregardless" which isn't even a real word.

It's just "regardless". I.e. "people would still speed regardless".

Looks like revenue raising at its best. 5-10kms over the speed limit makes no difference anyway.

  • Imagine hitting a kid on the road because you're too focused on the speedometer instead of the road.

I remember coming to Australia and seeing speed cam warning signs. I was absolutely shocked lol. Don’t speed as simple as that. 300ish people think it’s gov revenue raising how about drive responsibly?

  • In the last 20 years of driving, I have had two speeding fines. The last being in 2013, and then 2001.

In 2001, I was driving from Adelaide to Sydney and the road changed from 100km/hr to 80km/hr because there was a petrol station and a turn off to a town that had a population of 40 so of course the speed had to drop for 'safety' reasons. I got caught doing 98km/hr and I got pulled over and parked awaiting my 'speeding *cough cough ticket …. as I sat there, there was a speed sign that increased back to 100km/hr about 80 metres in front of me. Revenue raising 101.

In 2013, I admited I was speeding. I knew I was over the limit in any case.

Just went past one. Signs already gone. I thought they were going to phase it over time. Gonna catch a lot of people

    • +6

yep saw 2 already today, I was high on meth and had a baby in my lap but its all good cause I wasn't speeding

      • Yeah I felt safer having them less visable

    1. Lies about the severity of a virus to control citizens.
    2. Oops, fewer people driving means less fines spilling in, and many lost jobs means less taxes.
    3. Hm…. We can't admit the virus is an overblown hoax. So we need a way to steal more of the serfs' money, while making them think they deserved to be robbed…

Loosen up the straps on your tin foil hat there buddy, I think it's cutting off a little too much circulation.

      • Tin foil hat wearers are the ones who exaggerate/extrapolate. Had you done some basic research, like the literally hundreds of doctors worldwide who are calling out this farce which the mainstream media refuse to report, you would have realised a tin foil hat is the mandatory fashion accessory for the nonsensical government claims about this virus.

  • If you want to limit speeding there are much better ways with current technology than taking a snapshot, issuing a fine and removing licenses. Mandatory GPS overspeed alerts for a start, that can't be switched off without special permission or can only be paused for a few minutes. It doesn't have to phone home and it doesn't have to work all the time (so if no GPS or AGPS signal for say 5% of the time no big deal). Having someone yell "Overspeed! Overspeed!" in your ear would get pretty annoying pretty fast.

  • I'd like to see the data for high beam usage after this implementation.

Already saw one on Pennant Hills road around Carlingford, over the weekend. Also, another one on Windsor road, near Box Hill. No warning signs.
I feel like I'm paying more attention to the speedo than the road ahead these days.

Get used to driving the speed limit, and you'll be fine.

      • Thanks, I'm usually ok when I'm driving, but, unfortunately, I haven't mastered sticking to the exact speed limit when I'm riding. It's usually 2-3ks under or over the actual speed limit.

        • +1

It is a limit, not the specific speed that you have to travel at.

          • @GG57: fair point. but still gotta keep looking at the speedo to make sure I'm under.

            • @Trioboy: And on a bike, it is a lot harder to do so. A lot more dangerous too, cos your head has to go all the way down to look at your dash.

              • @lordra: yeah, in my case the speedo is on my tank. which means I gotta keep looking down. Probably, not the safest thing to do.

                • @Trioboy: I try and pick a couple of cars and stay at the same speed as they are. That way, I'm looking at the road, the cars are peripheral and I keep my speed constant (until another bike goes past then I HAVE TO look down at my speedo ha!).

  • Can anyone tell me, where do they mount the sensors and the camera on the mobile speed camera vehicle. Is it at the backend or the front end?

    • +1

Based on observation , Camera is at the back 100% but they have sensors front and rear (to capture both lanes) , but before the signs are "removed" they only have signs facing in one direction so more often then not they will capture the other side of the road and you won't know it unless you keep your eye out.

if you look HERE some people have parked their cars directly behind the mobile camera's to stop them taking Pics

  • Anyone anecdotally know if there is a tolerance built into these? E.g. will they get you if you're going 63 in a 60 zone or something stupid like that?

    • Usually the notice will have two different speeds listed.

One will be called something along the lines of "detected" speed straight from the device/camera.

The second I think is something like "alleged" speed which will be slightly lower than the detected number and is basically an acknowledgement of any measurement error.

Basically stops people arguing the "how accurate are they" angle or the "61 in a 60 zone" angle. I think it's 2km/h for fixed and 3km/h for mobile cameras.

  • +2
  • I reckon they need to increase the number of speed signs if the don’t warn about cameras. I just slow down to 65 whenever I’m unsure and I come across a camera. I can never be sure I recall the correct speed. I think they assume everyone has a navigation unit to tell them the speed limit.

  • +1

    Removed already!

    • Good. Seeing the sign allows you to correct your speed prior at the time, rather than getting a nasty surprise a month later when you can’t rememrn why you were speeding in the first place.

They can still appear anywhere, meaning you need to keep an eye on speed.

    • +1

Not backflipping, just doing enough to pretend to be fixing their mistake - the marked vehicles and signs where the vehicles are positioned aren't returning. All they're doing is adding more of the "speed cameras are used in this area" fixed signage that already exists.

      • +2

Far lot of good that does. Just adds ‘noise’ to the roadside furniture.
