Cost to Repair Bike Disc Brakes?

Hi All
I have no idea about bikes, but a friend of mine is selling one of his and he has told me the front and rear disc brakes will need to be replaced - just wondering if anyone would know how much this might cost to get a bike repair place to do?

He said "The damage was caused by the lubricant spray on rotor and bike pads, it is not a visible damage. The bike still stops on breaking but front brake makes a noise and rear brake pads drag on the rotor creating a vibration and noise".

It is a Giant hard tail - couple of years old.

Thanks!

Sounds like it just has contaminated pads. $20 a set for basics, maybe up to $50 if it's some really high end thing which it doesn't sounds like it is. Can DIY, I'm sure there's plenty of Youtube videos showing how.

Sounds like there's no damage at all? Just needs a service e.g. brake pads to be re-adjusted.

  • Degrease the discs thoroughly (& don't touch them with your fingers afterwards), new pads and if they're hydraulic maybe a flush/renew/bleed the fluid.

  • Cable or hydraulic?
