How essential is to cover Weep-holes and Silicone on side of building ??

Hello,

Just wondering how essential is to cover weep-holes? Apparently I’m getting a lot of spiders around the house especially on the fence and noticed almost every hole is covered with spider web. So initially I thought they would be cheap but they are fairly expensive when you need more then 100 of them, being as an oz bargainer thought I’ll ask here and find out the experience towards this situation..

Don't seal up weep holes, they are there for a reason. Buy some fly screen, cut little squares and glue them on if you really want to stop insects getting in.

    • Naa I wasn’t planning to silicone holes I know they are there for a reason… silicon on the outside side of brick around the house to stop water sinking in..

      • What do you mean by this? Siliconing brick is only going to be a bandaid fix, do you have drainage issues you need fixed?

        • There is no drainage issue, one of my mate suggested that the exterior of the house should be siliconed as there is possibly of water sinking underneath the building. My main issue is to cover weep- holes with a cheaper option…

          • @Nonnu: Water should run away from the base of the foundation of the house, and you should have eaves and gutters to ensure that rainwater doesn't run down the brickwork of the house.

if there's no drainage issue, then there's no need to silicone up brickwork.

            • @Keplaffintech: Great thanks that takes silicone out of the way then..

  • Don’t silicone weep holes, call pest control and get house sprayed.

      • can you elaborate/provide context as to your issue with water leakage?

        • I think there is water on the outside of the brick around the house sinking in…

        • No issue is with spiders which I’m presuming coming out from weep-holes.. so looking for a cheaper option then Bunnings link shared below..

          • @Nonnu: The Bunnings ones are only slightly more than $1 each?

Might work with a mesh screen (maybe fly screen) cut into long strips and push it in?

  • how big is your house? need 100 of them?

    • Just 4 bedrooms house.. believe me I’ve counted was around 108.. I was kinda shocked as well..

    Amgrow Ant Spider Cockroach… https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07WMF7DY8?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_s…

This product works wonders. Spray the perimeter of the house and the weep holes. I do the house twice a year and it’s been working so far.

  • is that a new building things? my old house don't have those.

    • Yes it a new building…
