How Long Does It Take until The ATM Sucks in Unclaimed Withdrawals?

Hello,
Accidentally forgot to take out my money from a CBA and CUA bank on the same day. I'm not here to entertain jokes about my clumsiness - everyone goes through their difficult and strange times.

CUA told me it was a measly three seconds, but CBA has told me they aren't aware but a quick test showed me that it was over 10 seconds.

Anyone have any experience in this? For the CBA transaction, after realising 30 seconds later I received a docket saying the transaction failed which gave me hope that my money was sucked back in.

I've also been told if the enquiries fail I have a chance of lodging a police report.

    about my clumsiness

I think you’ve got a bigger problem mate.
I would’ve assumed the unclaimed money would be credited back to you. Have you checked your bank balance?

The unclaimed cash most likely got 'credited' into the hands of the person waiting behind OP.

Why don't you go back to the same arms and just try again with a $20 withdrawal and time how long it takes?

    • I was thinking of doing that, but didn't want to raise suspicion with my bank with multiple occurrences of this happening.

Twice in the same day, hahaha. How high were you my dude.

    That's ruddy mysterious.

  • Dispute the transactions with your card issuer. After the ATM is balanced you're likely to get it back. might take 21 days.

I'm fairly sure the CBA default is to count the money and deposit it to random anon unidentified accounts so it
became the Bank of choice for money laundering…
Oh wait, that was CBA IDM, not ATM.

When the money is drawn back into the ATM its put to the side, if you make a complaint, they should check the ATM and see the $ you withdrew still sitting inside the ATM if it hadn't been taken.

I had a similar incident with CUA , but they do not own there OWN any atms , when I made an enquiry , they said that the owner of the ATM REDI hadn't replied to there messages at the time and they refunded my money as a good will gesture.

  • A colleague of mine had this experience and did a test, he said it was about 2 minutes. But it was years ago, so might have changed.

    Pam? Is that you!

    • Maybe that's where her keys are. ATM sucked them in.

  • do ATM machines actually pull the cash back in?

i remember years ago rocking up to an ATM and $50 was sticking out of it and no one else around in sight

    • Damn, must have been annoying needing to find another ATM.

The money would get sucked back in to the machine and go to a seperate tray for reject notes. Whoever services the machine should take those reject notes and refund to the account or if they are damaged and bad notes put them aside for sending back to the RBA. Depends on how often the machine get's servcied and I think it would then go back to the depot of the security company for balancing. This could take a few days.

OP your pull out game is weak.

  • It used to be that if the money was reclaimed by the ATM then the transaction would be automatically cancelled. OP, check to see if this has happened?

    • I think that's only the case if you're using the same banks ATM.
