RAM Upgrade for My Dell Inspiron 15 5505

Hello

I have just bought an Inspiron 15 5505 4700U 8GB 512SSD, and I was wondering how to go about upgrading the ram.

I looked at Dells website and they are charging $138.55 for an 8GB SODIMM stick.

I am wondering what other options do I have?
Do other places sell the same stick at a cheaper price.
If not would I need to buy two new 8GB SODIMM sticks of RAM so that they are matching.

Thanks for any knowledge shared as I don't know a lot about laptops.

Also also, does anyone know a good laptop case that would fit this laptop?

Should cost around $50 assuming you are planning on installing it yourself

Matching shouldn't matter unless you require dual channel ( specs list 12gb in 8/4 config)

    • I want to run my RAM in dual channel, so would (https://www.auspcmarket.com.au/memory/notebook-memory/ddr4-s…) be able to run in dual channel, as it is the same size, 3200MHz; or do the RAM timings also need to be the same?

      16 GB, 2 x 8 GB, DDR4, 3200 MHz, dual-channel, is what it says on dells website.

It may work in dual channel.
For best chance of success you'd need a pre tested matched pair and just put your original on eBay.
        $100-$150 for 16/32gb kits
Not sure the improvement gained in dual channel is that great though.

        • Thanks for the help, I'll probably just buy a pair and sell the original on eBay.
