Quality of Amazon Products Differ from Local Supermarkets

After signing up to Amazon prime, I preferred most of my grocery shopping on Amazon over local supermarkets (woolworths or coles) even though Amazon gives low price mostly when local supermarkets put in offer. However, we recently observed that some product quality differ from the same product we purchase in the supermarket. The examples are Nestle condensed milk, OGX biotin and collagen shampoo, conditioner etc. Do you realise similar issue?

Do those products have addresses on them? They might be imported from cheaper markets. Toothpaste is an example where cheaper Colgate is imported from Indonesia.

    • Yep, a lot of online (or discount store) products are not the Australian version, they are an overseas version. Still presumably healthy and do the job, but different for whatever reason. Sometimes quality of ingredients, sometimes its just taste adjusted for local (non Australian) markets

  • some product quality differ from the same product we purchase in the supermarket.

Are the packaging different or they have shorter Best Before / Expiry, or look like they been in a warehouse for a long time?

Or as comment above a parallel import?

  • I find soft drink bottles flatter/lose fizz quicker when I get it from Amazon

  • From what I understand about amazon, all UPC codes go in the same bins from all suppliers. This means some suppliers are probably sending in parallel import cheaper and as long as the barcode is the same, it will all be mixed in together in storage. I have read a few stories about people getting fake storage cards due to this issue.

  • I've been buying household chemicals, tech and other bulk buying goods.

Haven't noticed anything different in my mouthwashes or shampoo, however I stay away from buying food from Amazon due to reasons aforementioned.

  • Nestle condensed Milk is all made in Spain as of a few months ago, WW still is selling AU stock but once that's gone it's all Spanish.
