28 Degrees Price Protection - Is this covered?

I've had the Price Protection feature activated for years now but never really used it. I've read the PDS but just had a few questions for anyone who's made a successful claim before.

1) Does the product at the lower price have to be in stock at the time they review your claim? E.g. Amazon's lightning deals might sell out quickly. Would I be able to take a screenshot of the page before it's sold out and use that in the claim?

PDS says: "…where the item is not in stock and immediately available (e.g. no backorders or rain checks)". In the above case, the product was immediately available at the time of taking the screenshot.

2) What if I were to buy extended warranty? The receipt includes both costs. Can I still claim PP if I find the product cheaper or can they decline because the transaction isn't identical? The item being PP'ed doesn't need to be on a receipt on its own, right?

3) Price matching local stock to grey imports (from an 'Australian retailer' like Kogan). Any luck with that?

4) Discounts with voucher codes. E.g. JB Hifi might have a promotional code for 10% storewide. Is this covered?

5) Lastly, buying from Good Guys Commercial. Is this covered? What are some reasons they've denied your price protection claim in the past?

Thanks in advance!

    • Thanks for the link. Would be great to get some personal experiences though.

    1. No, as long as you take a screenshot while item is instock, you’re good.
    2. The claim form has an option to enter extended warranty that you purchased. However benefit will be calculated from total purchase price - EW cost - discounted price, if that makes sense.
    3. Never tried but I’ve always assumed no since items are not identical

. 4. Yes, take a screenshot of final price if online
. 5. No due to not available to general public

Not going to answer these questions but it's best to jump onto the claims form and look at the details you have to provide. If it's over (I think) $100 difference you need to upload receipt and proof of discount.
I've been using 28degrees price protection for a couple of years now. It feels like I'm scamming them….
Their PDS is pretty straightforward so just play within the rules and go nuts.
I've claimed back $4K of the $20K total.
I only ever pay the 95c BPay fee once per month when I even bother to use the card.
    Absolute rort.

It's free if you pay in their online portal. Takes about 2 days to go through

      • and disables the feature for the next 5 days

    • I've had the feature enabled for years but never thought about using it. Thinking about using it to get electronics when I actually need it instead of waiting for the price drop. Part of me is skeptical that this works though.

It's great, I claimed $500 back for my phone a few months back. Mostly use it for console games, husband has tried out so many games then resold on gumtree, get 50% back on claims at least.

We had our washing machine die and instead of shopping around I just went straight to the closest store that had stock for the one I wanted (didn't even care about it being full price) and then we had 12 months to find a cheaper price - anywhere in Australia and excluding shipping. Next month there was an eBay Good Guys sale and got like 40% back…

The other good one is for mobile phones but you have to buy outright.

        • Same here, don't even have to find the best price (that much) anymore, knowing that the items will definitely go on sale, especially clothes and shoes!

    • Do you have to enable some feature to get this ?
I have had the card for few years but never used it

      • It was an opt in for me.
I don't think it's offered for new services anymore but I've heard people have had luck calling up.

        • im not a new service, i've had it for quite some time, just never enabled that feature.
but i will try ring up and find out, to be honest based on past experience on simple questions like card activation, their call centre staff are a bit useless.

          • @sagrules: If you have never activated it, you wouldnt be able to get it now as it is not available anymore, its been grandfathered

    • If it's over (I think) $100 difference you need to upload receipt and proof of discount.

      It's over $200.

But sometimes they will still ask you for both proof of receipt and proof of discount even if it's under $200. Just yesterday I was asked to show both for a Kmart fan lol

3- Local stock vs grey imports are not identical stock. Whilst u may be able to get away with it… Technically pretty sure its not eligible

4- Yes.. As above need to show what end price was.
I've used it to claim eBay's 20% off in the past and it's worked

5- I believe it needs to be generally available (which GC Commercial is not)
