IKEA Double Buy Back Challenge

With IKEA's Black Friday Double Buy Back scheme I was able to return a sofa we'd used since June and get more IKEA credit then we paid for it.

Which made me think, what's the highest amount of IKEA Credit you could make on buying a new item, building it and returning it straight away? IKEA buy back challenge.

IKEA BRIMNES Cabinet with doors, black78x95 cm seems to be good:

Buy new $119
Return for credit $154

so spend $1190 to get 10 of them and return them for $1540 credit = $350 extra credit

Any other ideas?

Seems like a lot of work for $350 in IKEA credit.

    • agree - perhaps there are some easier examples?

wow. nice idea. how long does it take to build one set? can you do it on the parking lot?

    • I re-assembled our couch in the parking lot pretty easily on a Thursday night

  • you are effectively buying their IKEA store credit/gift card with a discount of 22.7% by going through all the hard work buying and assembling each item.
Not to mention taking all the risks - why if you accidentally damage it during your transportation or staff give you a sht evaluation

    • it wouldn't be transported - you could literally assemble in the car park
they couldn't evaluate it as anything less than as new if you've assembled it on the spot could they?

Bases on your theory and Ikea’s assembly services. Your profit could be considered the price paid assembly.

Maybe better off being an airtasker? (see their link to get a quote) You then don’t need to worry about carrying inventory.

  • What do they do with the stuff after you build it and return it?

    • They sell them in the as-is section. You can't take it back as buy-back as it excludes as-is items which they mark with permanent marker.

      • I was just hoping they don't just crush them or throw them out. I'm a bad person and I couldn't even deal with that level of wastage.
