Gold Coast Transportation

I'm planning to fly to the Gold Coast in December once the borders open. I was looking at the transport options and Skybus is not running, and the TX busses appear to not be running. Anyone have ideas for how to get around to theme parks? I would rent a car, but would need a 7 seater for my group which would be $150/day.

  • Maxi Taxi

  • Ace rental cars. Kia Carnival. $90/day. $4400 excess

They are off airport but they run a shuttle to/from.

Rented from them late last year and they were good to deal with.

Bargain rental cars. Hyundai iMax $95/day $5k excess

  • Con-x-ion Airport Transfers offers transfers direct from your hotel to Dreamworld and WhiteWater World. Visit www.con-x-ion.com or phone 1300 930 676 to make a reservation.

    • Lol, last time I used them they left me behind - customer service on the phone didn't care (philipines), I had to wait another 1.5 hours for the next one - driver refused to turn around when he was called (had just left the airport) - Morals = none

  • The theme park (Surfside) TX7 is running as per usual (https://jp.translink.com.au/plan-your-journey/timetables/bus…).

Simply catch the tram to Helensvale Station then jump on the TX7 and vice-versa.

The old TX routes that ran directly along the Gold Coast highway were discontinued after the tram launched.

Buses/trains are really good in the GC. You can use an app to plan your trips and they go to theme parks and Pacific Fair. Very easy to navigate and they are usually quite on time. I was blown away by the public transport there tbh.

You can go to any newsagent and purchase a Go Card. Chuck $30-40 on each of them and off you go.
When you are about to head home, take the cards back to a newsagent and they'll refund you the remaining amount on the cards in cash. Just make sure you only top up from newsagents and not via the machines because otherwise you won't get your money back afterwards.
