You can get etching gel and use a vinyl cutter to cut the shape mask you want to etch. I've never done it, but apparently people do it.
Laser goes through glass.
The business i was thinking of has closed due to retirement. However the gentleman seems to be still working part time. Neville Pye. Maybe call him and ask.

Don't know to much about it & correct me if I'm wrong. You need a rotary tool not a laser for glass. It's chips off a layer of the glass. Dremel 3000 for example. They sell it at bunnings.
