I'd advise reading the comments of the previous deal before buying

    • +3

Eh, they feel cheap but ours still work fine after a long time / many reinsertions.

      • +2

        Bit of the old in-out

    • +3

Did they fix these or are they still the same as first gen. mini finger burners?

    • +1

Indeed. Reddit says these are on Tesla's recommended drives list for the dashcam and Sentry Mode feature but in my experience they can run quite hot (in which case the speed slows dramatically).

I've seen warning messages from time to time in the Tesla that the drive isn't fast enough, undoubtedly due to the slowdown. Not sure why Tesla recommends them when they're not actually fit for that purpose.

Price-wise this doesn't seem any special when you look at the regular price of the other capacities too.

lots of comments about it being slow in that other deal

64GB @ $13.88 is better value. I have owned two of these and the plastic is very thin and breaks easily on the corners. Great for a cheap drive, but you need to be careful with these. End result was I contacted amazon and they gave a full refund and told me to chuck the stick

    • +1

      Did you chuck the stick?

      • +6

Glued it back together. Ended up using it as a loan stick to give my mates movies.

        • Classic OzBargain special.

        • Well played

  • Goneeeeee!!!!

$8.99 and $13.70 (64GB), seems fine to me. Title updated.

      • Gosh, that was quick - thanks.

Bought one first without even thinking, OzB style. Cancelled after reading reviews.

Mine broke pulling it out of the TV. Part of it is stuck in the port still

    • +3

Seems you need a deal on needle nose pliers next…

    • OK now that's a pretty good reason to think twice. Thanks, broken-TV-friend!

So, considering that many people here don't recommend this drive - which low profile flash drive do you recommend? The one that is fast, strong and cool? I don't mind paying a bit extra, but literally every flash drive on Amazon has a number of negative reviews with the same complaints - it's slow, it's hot, it breaks easily or just stops working.

This worked great for me for a year or so. If you're careful, I'd still recommend it. Just remove it with a good grip and don't leave it plugged in too long

      • I actually bought this Sandisk drive a few days ago (paid 20 cents more) after doing a bit of research and reading reviews, and already received it. It definitely looks quite flimsy compared to previous (usb 2.0) generation of Sandisk Fit drives that had metal connector. I would probably buy something stronger when I need another drive, but have no idea what would be considered a great, ozb-approved flash drive today.

BTW, what is supposed to happen I if leave it plugged in too long? It may get hot during read/write, but not if it just sits in the USB port idle.

        • +1

I know my drives get hot just sitting in the port. Knowing these are prone to burning up, it's a good idea to keep these out when not in use

I bought the lexar jump drive.. they're slightly smaller and have quicker read speeds. Seem to be fairly sturdy. They are like a mouse or keyboard usb dongle.

      • Are they about the same price?
        Link pls?

        • there is no special on this but i got mine from amazon around $35…

  • +2

The housing on mine is a little cracked and discoloured from heat stress but it works well enough for what I have it plugged into

It also doubles as a very slow fingerprint remover. Remove your finger from there when you smell beef.

  • Yeah plastic broke in a couple of months too… Not happy Jan

  • I am showing $20 fr 64gb

    • yeh.. reported for expired lol

  • +1

The 128GB is currently for $23.50

I've used one for my Wii U for years, never had any issues.

  • Flip, I wish I got these.

I've got 2 x 64GB in my Wii U. 2 x 128GB gets me a lot more Wii U, Wii, and Gamecube ISOs. I don't actually play them of course, I just like having it setup like that.

Been using a 64gb as a Windows inline backup for a few years. It does get scarily warm. It does look too small. It is plastic. It is slow. It keeps working.
