Testing SD card Speeds

does you computer speed matter with these programs? or if you connect the card through a SD slot directly to the computer or through a external devise i.e. SD in camera and camera connected to computer?

I am checking my class 10 16gb card (from Ewareshop) and I'm getting worrying results.. so i have an old laptop that has a SD slot which i used h2testw which gave me writing speeds of 2mb/s… so i tried it with a newer desktop through my camera connected to the computer (no SD slot) and got 5mb/s…
So this is a bit worrying having both test under 10mb/s, but i'm wondering if i might be doing it wrong.

I suspect that there is a problem with the card because sometimes my SLR isnt registering that a SD card is there and i have to insert it in and out to work.. does anyone know if this what happens when the card speed is too low? it isnt the camera's fault because it is new and it works for my 8gb class 10 card.

if anyone able to help out it would be appreciated! and if i do have to return it to ewareshop do I send it back to them (potentially loose the evidence)? and should they be paying the shipping back?

thanks all.

  • saw you shopping around for intax films. I have 20 that came with the fuji camera I bought from dicksmith. since you are in brisbane so postage is saved. how does $15 sound?

  • Yes it will depend on how you are testing. Even computers with an SD 'slot' are often just the same as external readers, only built into the same case.

Your camera should NOT fail to register the SD card regardless of speed. Usually it just takes longer to write the photo, and if you take too many photos at once you will have to wait. If the camera is having trouble using the card, it indicates a dodgy card.
