Ambulance Cover Only, Still Get Private Health Discount (NSW) at Specsavers

Just thought I would share, while at Specsavers getting some new glasses, the sales lady asked if I was in a Private health fund. I said no, then jokingly said 'well I do have ambulance cover through HCF'.

She said 'well then, that's a health fund, you get the discount'…

She went on to say I should still be eligible for any health fund discounts on offer through different places, just down to having ambulance cover through them.

It was news to me and saved me $70 on what I was prepared to pay.

Hope this helps someone out!

    saved me $70

That discount plus more is built into all their prices.

Spec Savers pricing structure is an absolute joke.

  • To be clear this is a discount for being a member, its not the actual 'rebate' you get back from your fund.

The SpecSavers pricing model is indeed interesting, I had to really read it and understand it before committing. There are some traps there.

    • discount for being a member

So the same as being an RACV/RACQ etc member.

    • I realise I didn't receive a rebate. And I know the pricing is a bit crappy, however they did have a frame that I liked and I was ok to pay the price they were asking.

It was just a surprise that even having HCF Ambulance cover, I was still 'given' the HCF discount.

She mentioned anywhere that asks if you have private health care (in order to obtain a discount, not a rebate), say yes as technically you are a member even though it's just ambulance cover.

I thought it might help others who never thought of Ambulance cover having being part of a private health fund.

  • Specsavers probably not paying for the rebate so smile and wave…
