Google Pay Myki Not Working

I found out about Myki on Google Pay recently and topped it up with some money. But my phone doesnt scan with any of the machines.

My phone Huawei P30 Pro.

NFC works as I tried out debit card payment at Coles.

Default app is set to Google Pay.

Tried without a phone case, still nothing. Tried selecting the card/ just phone unlocked. Nothing seems to work.

Any ideas?

Have you tried calling 1800 800 007 and asking them?

  • Sister on Mate 20 has the same issue for a while as well. On the other hand I have a Mate 20 RS and no issues.

    • Sister on Mate 20 has the same issue for a while as well.

      Hi any fix/improvement since then?

      • Lol no sorry, the mate 20 screen got cracked on a drop and it's since been replaced with a Poco X3 NFC (which costs less than the screen repair) which doesn't exhibit the problem…

Go to your NFC settings and check what the secure element position is.
Try changing it to HCE wallet.

    • Theres only two settings:
      1. Default app
      2. Settings (a. Always use default app, b. Prioritise currently running app)

  • Same issues, Mate 10 Pro

  • According to comments, only for Huawei phones? may be something to do with Google Services on Huawei ?

    • Google services still work on P30 series, I think the models after that won't.

  • I had a similar problem with my previous Samsung Note 8. Sometimes I'd try and try and it just wouldn't scan. Then some days, it'd scan first go. I tried for the first time with a newer Xperia last week and that worked first go.

When I setup my the Myki on my new phone (same Google account), I noticed that the Myki that I had previously used was no longer there. I'm not sure how much credit there was, but I had to setup another Myki and load $10.

You need to transfer the myki over and deactivate it on your old phone. I also got caught out by this.

I have a Mobile myki and want to use it on my new phone or another phone – what do I do?

      • On your existing phone, go into Mobile myki, select the menu in the top right corner (three vertical dots) and choose ‘Move to another device’. This will allow you to deactivate your Mobile myki.
      • On your new phone, download Google Pay™ and set it up with your same account details. In the Passes section, you'll then be able to see your Mobile myki and activate it to your new phone.

You can only have your Mobile myki active on one device at a time.

You need to deactivate your Mobile myki on one device before doing a factory reset or all data will be lost.

Dammit - too late. I hard reset my old phone already and gave it away. I wrongly assumed the electronic Myki was linked to my Google account rather than the phone itself.

Thanks for the info anyway. It'll be handy for next time! :)

Did you register the old myki on your My Myki account? Maybe they can transfer the funds to your current one. I did that for mine. Only problem is that I have to wait until I next touch on before the funds are transferred, which is a tad difficult being a Sydneysider who hasn't stepped foot in Melbourne since March (thanks COVID-19!)

            @kerfuffle:

Did you register the old myki on your My Myki account?

I don't think I did. I created it on the spot one day when there was nowhere close by I could purchase a physical card, so I just did the minimal necessary to use it.

…Sydneysider who hasn't stepped foot in Melbourne since March

We're back open now! :) All the Victorians are trying to get away from here for holidays after the lockdown and so many others are trying to come in for a holiday! lol

@bobbified: I probably won't be back until either Winter or whether I can nab tickets to a MTC play. :( I flew in the same day Dan Andrews declared Victoria a state of emergency in mid-March; nothing like watching that piece of news half an hour before your flight to Melbourne!

      • As kerfuffle said. I got caught out too.

And I'm pretty sure I'll forget next time I upgrade my phone.

But OPs symptoms sounds like new phone upgrade problem.

  • I have a Huawei P20 Pro and no consistent issues - the readers are hit and miss though!

  • Resurrecting an old thread but has anyone found a fix for this? Also running a Huawei P30 Pro with the same problem - will scan one day, won't scan another.

    • I've Mate 10 and also issues. Seems to be similar experiences with these phones.
