Suzuki Ignis GLX 2020 Series II $21490 Drive Away - "Micro SUV", No AEB, Worth It?

Saw this comment in another post and got interested in this oddball car.

Specs here.

All the reviews I've come across seem to indicate that the car is comfortable, reliable, and most importantly, fun to drive around town. Note that the Ignis doesn't have an ANCAP rating in Australia and doesn't have AEB. In other markets it has been rated 3/5 for models without AEB, and 5/5 for models with AEB which is an available option in the UK, etc. The closest competitor in terms of price and size is the Kia Picanto GT ($19490 drive away) which comes with AEB.

How important is AEB these days? None of our current cars have it and I've heard some stories of systems engaging incorrectly.

Do you feel like the pricing on this Ignis is a bit overinflated? $19500 drive away sounds reasonable to me - would this be an amount that I could bring to the dealership if I were prepared to buy? Do I ask for accessories thrown in? I understand that the car market is doing a bit weird at the moment right now due to Covid…

Does anyone own this Ignis, or the 2017 model, and can give more insight on whether you liked the car? I've only seen a few on the roads…

*I've considered a second-hand one but there aren't many for sale, and the ones on sale seem to only be a few thousand off a new car.

    Hard pass on this car

Comments

  • Micro car size… unless you really really want it I would pass.
I would go Kia Rio Sport Auto $22,490.00 DA

    • Your comment in the other thread was actually the one that made me consider this car haha! Will look into the Kia but I do really like the Ignis and the micro size cars as I'm looking to downsize from 4wds to a compact "city" car. I also looked into a Fiat 500 but the 2 door scenario can get annoying.

      • Are you the one looking for an uncommon car? Don't get a Fiat lol. Between the 2 it really boils down to personal choice. I dont really care much about AEB, not all AEBs are built the same or would function nearly as well as we would like or as advertised. Particularly the cheap ones which is in entry levels.

        • Different person but it turns out I'm also a bit of an irrational nonconformist when it comes to cars apparently. I didn't know there were differences in AEB across cars but that makes sense; definitely food for thought here.

      • Fiat 500 is a good car and far better than this. Get that or a ~3 year old Peugeot or Citroen, you will get great value for money and a great car.

    Ex-Suzuki salesperson here

At promotional prices, the cars had fk all money in them. You'll be pushing to get $1k off, and that's on a good day with the right rapport, model in stock, etc. And no, don't ask for accessories as they just cost money

    • Thanks for the insight! Sad news for my inner bargain-seeker.

I briefly looked at these as a commuter when I was considering keeping my larger car but decided to get rid of it and get something smaller than I had but larger than these.

IMO the Suzuki is hugely overpriced and of course we actually get lower spec models than the JDM market to further rub salt in the wound. The Picanto is a better vehicle for cheaper and is what I would've bought had I gone down this path.

    Hi,

I own a Suzuki Ignis GLX auto 2017 model. Im a 200cm guy who wanted a small shopping cart with cruise control. Most small/medium cars have terrible headroom, the GLX model has a driver's seat you can lower (unlike the GL) so this actually gave me the most headroom, (and easier entry/exit due to car height) compared to the Picanto.

Its a decent car, i havent had any problems since i bought it, there havent been any significant recalls. The back doors open to almost 90 degrees so they are good for loading kids in and out like i do all day.

The only real complaint i have is the front seats are a bit spongy/unsupportive (not sure about the back, never been in it). Engine performance is meh, but no surprises with a CVT 1.2l NA.

PM me if you want more info.
