Domino's Delivery Tip - Drivers/Chefs - Please Confirm

Hi guys, when I tip while getting Dominos delivery, is the tip passed on to staff 100%?
EDIT:
Perhaps a bit more detail needed.
Of course I would expect a driver pocket any change i would give to them.

How does it work with the optional tip addon on the website?
They're usually pretty even amounts (3$/$5/$10)
Do they go to the drivers in full?

Some people have said they get added to their paycheck - in which case it's taxable income - so I guess going forward I will give them cash next time.

Why are you tipping? This is Australia not America.
As for the question, at least at the franchise my friend worked at, they got all tips in full as the driver (probably because no one actually knows how much the customer tipped cause the driver handles all the cash and as long as the books balance…)

True, but I think from memory last time I ordered Dominos the website asked if I would like to tip, guessing that is what the OP is referring to.

      • Mine asked if i wanted to donate to charity only i think

Surely the driver would appreciate a few dollars cash more than a few dollars extra on his cheque? Though maybe with covid handing over cash isn't a great idea atm.

        • Yeah I think that's why they brought in the online thing, I used to give them a fiver occasionally but stopped when Covid started.

        • Yeah good point - but sometimes they just drop the pizza and go.

When you are very rich and your deliverer is very poor, sometimes it just feels right. Tipping when your girlfriend or boyfriend is around can impress them too, make you seem more magnanimous than you really are. And when you eat a lot of pizza tipping can lower your wait time a little, though it'll increase your waistline by a lot.

If you are very rich and want to do something meaningful, donate to a worthwhile charity.
If tipping impresses your significant other than, ok (but in that case, you sure they're with you because they actually like you)? But you'd rather show off with a big tip at a fancy restaurant than the delivery kid.
Can't speak to lowering wait times (most likely doesn't do jack at Dominos anyway since they're all timed for speed and the pizza oven only goes at a set speed). You'll get better service just for being a regular (who doesn't just order the daily/weekly special) than by tipping. If the manager knows you're a regular they'll want to keep you as it increases their official revenue and looks good (tips do jack all).

For the love of god, please do NOT perpetuate tipping culture in Australia. We pay decently with a relatively high minimum wage, there isn't a need to actively tip other than maybe "keep the (loose) change", in which case they're possibly doing you the favour by not having to deal with coins.

I used to work at a pizzeria and the drivers definitely know who tips after a while. The manager knows who places big orders. The servers know who the regular difficult customers are. They are all stuck in the little store all day, except when driving, and an opportunity to make more than minimum wage is for sure something they make themselves aware of. I don’t order pizza much though. Mainly Uber eats because local restaurants don’t have their own drivers.

When ordering online and using dominos tips option nobody knows you're tipping. Nothing to do with impressing anyone. Really just wondering if they get the tip.

As for the high minimum wage - you're 🦋 ch missing the point.
Some jobs get paid on a per piece/order basis. Do you think your Uber eats/menulog delivery driver gets hourly minimum wage? You must be deluded.

            @Powlie85:

Do you think your Uber eats/menulog delivery driver gets hourly minimum wage?

Sure seems like that's a choice they made.

            • @brendanm: Maybe they don't have a choice - but that's the 'choice' some are stuck with. Pretty sure many of these guys can't go home at the moment and can't get government help. They don't make the minimum wage and us using these services, perhaps we have to look after these guys a bit? Especially around Christmas I'm sure they would appreciate a bit of a boost.

  • I always toss a few coins in Mark Zuckerburg's tip jar when I am using Facebook too.

    • You do - because you're looking at all the ads on there and Facebook's selling your behavioral data.

    Just the tip

  • Cash gets pocketed and online tipping gets added to their pay slip.

    • Do you know that for a fact? If I tip $3 through the app/website, do theybget the $3 minus tax?

      • +1

Online tipping is subject to a 'merchant fee' "approx. 3c on a $3 tip to the average store" (Domino's statement). So they would receive $2.97 minus tax.

In reality for a $3 tip, $2.96 (rounded down from $2.964) is received minus tax, so about a 1.2% 'merchant fee'. Source: I work there.
