Is Anyone with Powershop for Electricity and Gas?

I am interested in taking up this deal at Powershop:
https://www.powershop.com.au/br-200-off-when-you-switch-elec…

I can see that the billing system with powerpacks could be a bit confusing, but the fact that they only use renewable energy and carbon neutral gas and are rated the greenest energy provider in Aus makes me want to switch. Does anyone have any recent experiences with Powershop they could share?

  • I’m with PS. They're ok, you work out the packs pretty quick…it’s cheaper to buy in advance.

  • Have been with them for years now (for both)

The packs are handy and it pays to pay early, the earlier you pay the more you save.

You can buy packs in advance, some months even (they release as them at certain times) which can give significant savings.

Powerpacks include all your fees and charges
but you can see a break down of pre savings costs in the PDF's on their page.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me, happy to answer any you may have :)

  • The billing power packs can be confusing at first, but on the plus side they allow you to control how much you want to pay for, ad when.

If you just leave it it will bill you monthly like a normal electricity provider, but without any extra discounts. But I like the fact that you can pay for amounts up to specific days in the month, which is helpful for managing bills in my share house. I can segment the bills so that they are based on calendar months, rather than billing cycles.

They are not the cheapest provider, but our household decided that we couldn't wait any longer for government to better encourage use of renewable energy so we decided that we would take the financial hit.

  • They have some good things but in principal I refuse to go with anyone who only gives you good rates if you prepay or pay on time, and stings you if you don't. This is like after pay, and they make a fortune from those who forget.

Im with a provider who gives u the best rate regardless of when u pay

    • Who is your current provider?

I don't mind paying up front, and I think you pay "normal" rates if you pay as you go, not get charged a penalty fee or anything.

  • I've been using them for about a year. I just buy the monthly packs as far in advance as I can, and the mega pack every 3 months when it's available too. This gives me a bit more power than I use, so I'll skip the monthly packs every once in a while. Powerpack tells me I've got the next 3 months or so paid up.

If you haven't got one already, I'd recommend getting the smart electricity meter installed too. Pretty sure it is free through them. It will make it easier to know how much in advance you should buy.
