Hi All

I was looking to get bread maker as XMAS present.

This is the new model panasonic machine.

excellent reviews and selling for 139 pounds from Amazon (actually.. 139 is from the primary seller; amazon price is fluctuating all over the shop 100 > 102 > 117 etc):
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-SD-2501WXC-Automatic-Bread…

so $173.95 delivered from Aus seller seems pretty reasonable.

  • our breadmaker has been gathering dust for many years now… Does anyone still use theirs ???

    • I know they are popular for coffee bean roasting.

That is the fallback plan if the machine does not get used.

      BTW …

here is the thread on coffeesnobs that I submitted inquiring about bread machine:

Yes once a week, that fresh bread smell on the weekend mornings is addictive.

      Want to sell it? :)

  • Is the SD 2501 the latest model or is SD 257 the latest?

The SD257 is available at appliancesonline, but not Billy Guyatts, so I'm confused.

    • SD2501 is the latest :)

Building on the success of the award-winning and best-selling Panasonic SD-256 and SD-257 breadmakers, Panasonic is delighted to announce three new replacement models, SDZB-2502, SD-2501 and SD-2500

The SD257 is the older model. We have one and it is excellent. If you are after a breadmaker I highly recommend the Panasonic ones. The bread comes out perfectly everytime, the dough making is really easy and homemade pizza and foccacia cooked using the dough made by the breadmaker is just delicious. We have been using ours for a year with absolutely no problem. These are quite popular in Japan and are referred to as 'Home Bakery' over there. The new model, SD2501, can also make jam I believe.

      • I was interested in one to make foccacia. Currently I do it by hand.

So you can put olive oil in the breadmaker?

How does it come out.. if you can describe… there are variations of foccacia that can taste quite different.

    Useful Note
This breadmaker is eligible for a Tupperware pack, supposedly worth $150

Not sure if it really was $150 - I think instore I saw something different. Either way, worth knowing if you plan to buy.

    • Powerbuys are not on the list, i would recommend going somewhere that price matches that is on the list for the free tupperware

The ABN of Powerbuys is the same as for "MCKNIGHTS RETRAVISION BALLARAT". Could one therefore claim to have bought it from Retravision (which is on the list)? The receipt should show the same ABN, right?

Worth a try; I will give it a go!
I may actually email powerbuys and see if they can send me a mcknights retravision receipt.

        • Let us know what they say please.

I got an email response back stating "we'll send one out shortly"; I had asked for a retravision style receipt.

Also.. having purchased only yesterday morning, I got a response stating
"Hello, Your order is on its way, it's just being loaded on to the big Powerbuys Truck. Before you know it Australia Post will be knocking at the door with your order."

Anyway.. if I can get that tupperware pack too.. will be awesome. Thanks again for posting the promotion link.

  • I have the 257 and it's great. We make bread around 3 times a week. The smell is fantastic in the morning, and it only takes a few minutes the night before to bung everything inside and put the timer on. The French setting produces an amazing crust. I've been using the Laucke premixes - mainly the Barossa Sourdough and German Grain. Both are good. We use the Barossa Sourdough to produce an amazing raisin loaf as well.

I add a bit of citric acid powder to enhance the 'soury' taste of the sourdough (cheating, yes) and also to keep the bread from going off too quickly. Not that you really need that - it's consumed very quickly in our house.

We paid $214 for the 257, so this is an excellent price.

    • Got a 257 last Christmas… Used about 100 times so far… Always excellent…

Bread rarely makes it to the second day in our house… Sometimes just enough for toast, but not often!

  • Got one… i think this would solve 2 of my major problems… 1) Finding a proper base/table to kneed flour/dough, and 2) maintaining temperature for proofing.

  • Just an update.. I recieved the machine SD-2501 WST.

Also the receipt that came with it clearly has
    Mcknight's Retravision - Tax Invoice!!!

So maybe the tupperware will fly!

Note.. tupperware is only up to a value of $65

  • Does anyone have a copy / link to the form for the tupperware redemption? It seems to be missing from the panasonic website as of today, even though it's still just the 31st of December.
