eBay US Seller Sending Me UPS Prepaid Return Label??

So I purchased a steelbook blu ray boxset from a seller in the US through Ebay Australia. The item is a Best Buy exclusive and is only sold in the USA. The item arrived with a big dent in the top as it was poorly packaged. I messaged the seller requesting to send it back for a full refund. The seller admitted fault and agreed and then sends me a UPS return label and the address says "Best Buy Return Centre". This was very suspicious to me as Best Buy have nothing to do with the actual transaction. Shouldn't it have to go back to his address? Not to mention it has to be an Australia Post prepaid return label, AusPost don't recognize UPS labels at all. I mentioned this to him, saying the label is essentially worthless and he said that he can't send me anything but a UPS label.

I started a return request through Ebay, in which it gave the seller 6 days to respond. He responded by accepting the return and then sent me the SAME label that I told him I could not use(UPS Label and being sent to Best Buy Return Centre). I told him to try logging in through Ebay Australia with the same username and password and see if he can send an Australia Post label. He said he tried and it still wouldn't let him. Is he lying? Because the seller has sent a return label(although one that won't work), I currently cannot ask Ebay to step in and help me out.

Right now, what can I do? I will try contacting Ebay Australia and try get them to provide me with a proper AusPost return label. How good are my chances with this? Is the Ebay Australia "Chat with Us" function the best way to contact them? I could not find a direct number to call them. If they do provide me with an Auspost Label, would it have to go back to the sender's actual address(his proper return address is shown in the Seller Return Information) in order for Ebay to force the refund once the tracking has shown it has been delivered? For some reason the seller wants me to send the item back to Best Buy which makes me think Ebay won't fulfill the refund if the seller refuses to voluntarily?

  • Is it it an international Ups prepaid return label or domestic ? If its domestic of course it wont work.

As far as returning to best buy, ebay and paypal will only recognise a return to the senders address. Sounds like the sender has no clue what is going on or purposefully trying to obfuscate their response to you.

    • Thanks so much for the reply. It says it is UPS Ground so I am assuming it is a domestic label. It also shows my address as "1850 airport exchange blvd #200" which is the US address for the Ebay Global Shipping Program.

What can I do from here? The option to ask Ebay to step in and help has gone because the seller sent me a return label. It did list the 22nd of December as the date in which I could get them to help, I'm wondering if that will still apply. Or is contacting Ebay directly through their Chat service the best option for me?

Thanks again, I really appreciate it.

      • Yes contact ebay, and discuss it with them, see what they say.

        • Thanks heaps, I really hope they can help. This F***** boxset cost over $200aus…

Paypal dispute, item not as described, return shipping covered by paypal (assuming you've enabled that)

That or try and bump the dent back out and realise its just a movie boxset ;)

  • American company will not be able to produce Australia Post label, unless they go through the hurdles to create one.

That address is eBay GSP, Global Shipping Program's address, when you purchased it, you should received lots of notifications from eBay with the tracking status, in which one/or few of them will tell you it is from GSP.

Just to be sure, UPS has presence in Australia, just call and ask them for a pickup, check with them if the label is correct and ensure that the courier scans the package before leaving.

    • Thanks so much. Reckon I should clarify with Ebay if the return address is fine? Right now the return address that the item will ship to is Best Buy Return Centre. This was the address the seller provided. Or does it have to be the seller's original address?

      • If the label was provided by the seller via eBay, then eBay has a record of it. If the label was not sent by eBay message, ask them to send the label using eBay message, then you should be covered.

  • Just drop it off at UPS? Your profile says Victoria, so 93-99 Lambeck Dr, Tullamarine. Make sure it’s scanned or eBay won’t refund if it’s lost.

      • When I've returned stuff it had to be what was on the return label. As long as you get it scanned in by the carrier as 'sent', you should be fine for refund regardless of where it ends up. The return address is on the seller, not you.
