Transporting Built LEGO Sets - Any Suggestions?

Hey Fellow Lego Nerds!

I'm moving house in a couple of weeks. I've accumulated about a dozen decent sized Lego sets over the years. Any suggestions on how to move them (ideally without taking them apart)?

The place I'm moving to is only five minutes away, so moving them in my car is on the table.

Current plan is to stick each one into its own foam esky (Ive got a few), have them babysat in the car and hope for the best.

Would love to hear any better suggestions 😁

  • What do you mean by 'decent size'?
I just moved a few weeks ago and was surprised at how well all the sets did just by putting them in separate reusable Coles/Woolie's bags.
The largest of those would have been the Hogwarts great Hall.

The really big set I had to move was the full microscale Hogwarts. This was done by putting it on a whiteboard that was a bit bigger that the set, then putting that in the boot.
I moved about a 10 minute drive away and didn't have a single piece fall off.

    Kragle

    • Tempting, but can't bring myself to do it

  • If only a few minutes away then use a wheelbarrow, or straight in the boot of the car.

    • It's a few minutes drive - would be a big walk. I reckon they'd need to go in something (like the bags mentioned above), then could probably go in the boot

Foam boxes as you have them, but lots of scrunched up newspaper stuffed in around to stop movement.
Also check gumtree freebies for moving boxes etc.
Bunnings also have empty boxes, might need to buy a bolt though?

Smash them all up into one big crate, mix all the pieces together, move to the new house and rebuild them…
    Because 2020 can't get any worse ;)

If LEGO is for you, I break the seals and flatten the boxes for transport. Then I put all back nicely and sealed with tape. Usually do when I purchased some lego set during my oversea holiday. Inside all poly bags are sealed and box condition is mint. That will count as Brand new

Bubble wrap then inside foam eskies as you have them, then on the rear seat of your car.
