Any Good Recommendation for Printer Please?

I am after a good printer for my daughter especially for Home use as she got lot of assignments and other task to do and every day i need to go to near by OW to get her printouts. But I was wondering if someone pls suggest a good printer which can be used for both colour and BW printing and which cartridges available all the time. Most of the use is for black and white printing . i have looked couple on JB and HN websites which starts from $49 and they are mostly Inkjet.

Also i want to know if spending more on Laser is worthwhile and what are the advantages of that.

Your recommendations will be highly appreciated.

Thanks

  • How many pages per month does she need. If it's a low number you may as well get a photo printer, they are fairly cheap. If it's lots then a mono laser might be the way to go. If you need color and a very high number of pages then you've got some more expensive choices to make, you'll probably want that eco-tank printer or something similar.

    • Sometimes vary from 0 to 40 each month

That's not too many. You could go a color inkjet then. Just keep it plugged in and turned on all the time so the printhead can stay moist. And buy a pack of Canon High Resolution A4 paper (or similar), trust me it makes standard copy paper look like crap in comparison to pages with big images or graphics on them. And set the paper profile when you print on that paper to Canon High Resolution.

  • Laser printers are significantly cheaper per page to print and are faster, the colour laser printers tend to have higher upfront costs however.

In terms of brand I tend to stick with HP, I have had a lot less issues with them than other brands. Canon isn't bad either. I'd never buy another Brother printer.

Hp is bad idea if you want cheap toner because they have chip. Brother or fuji xerox all the way if you colour requirement is not over the top.

If she's happy to use B&W only, she can't go wrong with the wireless Brother HL-1210W laser printer

If she wants the occasional colour print, then maybe look at a bubblejet printer. I have the Epson WF-2860 and I source my ink from Inkstation. The full set costs me $53 and the quality is fantastic

      Bubblejet? What is this, 1993?

(Also, +1 for Brother lasers, they're bulletproof)

Brother mono laser, plus a cheap inkjet for colour

  • How much you willing to spend annually on the printer? Purchase price is not a good guide. Keep in mind that cartridges tend to be more expensive to replace (per page printed). In terms of their availability, I find eBay tends to havee replacement for all sort of printer (and not just DIY refills)

    • Let's guess $50 annually .

      • Could get a color inject but the cartridges are like 600 pages and will cost you the price of the printer to replace.

  • Get a mono laser, only go to OW if you need to do color.

  • I have a Brother Inkjet MFC that was on special at $50 about 8 yrs ago. Spent ~100 on a refillable cartridge kit, including ink. (endless ink)

Now after 8 yrs, the print head dries up, and I need to do a cleaning cycle before printing.

2 kids through school and uni, and have more than half the ink left!

  • 1) Contact Rihac by email with a list of your printing needs and ask them to recommend a printer.
    2) Buy the printer from where ever has the best price.
    3) Use up all the included ink.
    4) Order the CISS (continuous ink supply system) for your printer from Rihac.
    5) Install CISS in printer.
    6) Laugh at the printer manufacturers all the way to the bank.

I have done this twice now and have been extremely happy.

  • I have the EPSON ET7750. Can be bought for $1000.
Sounds insane but its super fast, extremely reliable, and I haven't had to refill ink in 2 years (Its ecotank).
It also prints photos and can print up to A3 size.
