I mean, when it comes to new underwear I wash them before using….but what about the other garments?

Your username; did you have a little accident?

      More like a big accident.

Absolutely. I don't need the chemicals from manufacture, or worse the sweat and God knows what else from who may have already tried it on!

  • +1

Yes, if it touches the skin or if it has some chemical smell.

Items such as jackets, jumpers wash after wore.

Yes ever since I read this case: Grant v Australian Knitting Mills.

Out of curiosity I checked the wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grant_v_Australian_Knitting_Mi…

" Dr Grant applied calamine lotion, but continued to wear the underwear for the rest of the week. He then wore the second pair for the next week and washed the first pair. This was in an era when changing his underwear only once a week was "the ordinary custom of ordinary people"

      How times have changed…

once a week, guy must be loaded, 1 month for me
then inside out for another month

  • Yes. What if the dude manufacturing it borrows it for the night to impress his date (has only started working, and can't afford to buy it yet)?

  • Always, it could be tried on by many people while is was in the store.

Covid 19 bro, why wash them at all

  • Yup, mainly because of potential manufacturing chemicals

  • When i usually get stuff from adidas, tshirts etc…I dont wash them. Then after the first wash they feel all stiff. What the hell am i missing? A better fabric softener?

  • Of course, I’m not a savage.

    Never washed my jeans, ever.

All your friends think you stink but are too polite to tell you.

He probably keeps them in the freezer at night to inhibit bacterial growth.

        • Probably spends hours impressing friends with stories of his finely crafted japanese selvedge denim

  • Absolutely. New clothes always smell bad for a start.

  • +2

New clothes are often sprayed with formaldehyde to prevent mould and wrinkling during shipping and sale, which is really bad for your liver. Wash your new clothes.

Sometimes no, I know I'll never get a shirt as perfectly ironed as it comes new, so sometimes I want to risk the formaldehyde death and get that one day of perfect looking shirt. I could learn to iron, but I'm waiting until they invent a robot that does that for you. I'm no dummy.

I want you to be the next PM. You have the right stuff! :)

  • Yes there are chemicals in the fabric of new clothes that will cause me to itch if I don't wash the clothes before wearing them.

    • Yes… formaldehyde. It's extremely bad for your liver.

  • If you're working in textile/clothing company, you won't think twice to wash any new clothes.

  • Always.

  • When I was young I never used to, but now I am ancient, I wash everything b4 use

  • I know I should but never do….nothing beats fresh socks though, unwashed for sure!

    • I agree. After that they are ruined by the stiffness and pills that form.

    • I once had a new pair of socks and never washed them,
and they wore out before I had a chance to wash them!
