How to Pay Airtasker to Pickup and and Deliver Furniture?

I want to buy furniture from Gumtree or eBay. But I have a small car, no mates to help loading/unloading etc.

I see people using Airtasker with jobs like "pickup sofa from X and deliver to me place". For those who use Airtasker how do you pay for the item? The job I understand is payable through the app.

If I go to the sellers place, pay them cash and later arrange for Airtasker to pick it up there is a chance that I lose my money as the seller just fobs of the tasker. I can ask the tasker to pay from their own pocket and I will reimburse the money when they deliver. But this is risk to the tasker and in any case the tasker may not have spare $1000 lying around.

So how do I do pay for the item, how do people who use Airtasker do it?

Why don't you meet at the sellers place at the same time as the airtasker, pay for the item yourself and then let the airtasker deliver it to you.

^ this.. It's really not rocket science.

      • It seems to be for some people.. not mentioning any names! lol

        • Good luck trying to coordinate the airtasker and seller…

          • @thatonethere: Why would it be difficult to co-ordinate? Refer back to Porker's comment above… :p

Hmm, this can be problem. Waiting outside someones home for extended time, I assume worst case as taskers are not punctual. Also some suburbs are quite far to drive, Melbourne is very spread out nowadays.

        • How far away is it, couldn't you drive somewhere close, a park or something and go and play on the playground or something and ask the taskman to call you when he is also close, or even there?

      • holy sh*t that solution is amazing.

      I don’t like it… it’s too logical
I’d get a second air tasker to drop off the money in a safe and only the seller has the code

What if the second airtasker steals the safe? Might need a third who's security to watch over the entire deal.

Well, you're now getting into the "roadwork planning" territory!

  • PayID/ Fast Payment to Seller whilst Airtasker is present having checked the goods.

You can think of more than one scammer proof method to securely pay and have your furniture inspected and delivered by the Airtasker so not sure why this has become such a challenging task for the OP.
During lockdown in Melbourne I was selling a large wardrobe and two guys with a truck (Airtaskers) turned up, inspected it and gave the buyer their opinion and sent some photos to her of a minor scratch that they've noticed, she was Ok with it and I got paid via PayID. Everyone was happy and took only 5 minutes.

      • I like this idea, provided the seller agrees to it.

  • I don't think any furniture i've sold has been collected by the person buying it. In all cases they paid for it upfront and got man with a van or airtasker to come fetch it. I took a photo of them loading it into the truck and away they went.

Option 2 is to buy stuff and hire your own van and ask the seller if they are happy to assist with loading into the van? and then hopefully you have 1 friend who can help offload.

    • Option 3: buy Ikea stuff that you can get almost flat packed and off you go.

  • I can ask the tasker to pay from their own pocket and I will reimburse the money when they deliver

Good luck with that. You sound like a scammer yourself

It sounds so hard, it might be easier renting a van via GoGet and sorting it out.
