What Do You Hate Buying, But Do So Anyway?

Maybe it's buying that yellowfin tuna knowing it's overfished. Or that bulk buy AA batteries when you could just keep up the recharge program. The new car when you could spend more time looking for a bargain used one. The sandwich from the local deli at work when you could of made your own. 98 RON petrol. VPN membership. Bottled water. I don't know!

Tell us the top thing you hate buying…

but you do so anyway.

Clothing. HATE clothes shopping. End up buying the same thing in 5 colours and 2 sizes online then return ones don't want.

      This.

As a shorter, lean guy, finding quality clothing that fits well and looks good is almost impossible.

When I find something that works for, I tend to stock up to have a few spares in the closet.

  • Blue fin all the way, if you are going to eat an unsustainable fish might as well be the best

OzBargain Premium membership. It’s just feels wrong paying to get the best deals.

    Anything <$5 on Aliexpress.

No where else in my life do I spend 30 minutes trying to get a $3.50 item for $2.82.

    Buying presents.

I grew up in a not-very-big-on-presents households and only got each other gifts when we find something another family member would like and so I would get my birthday present outside of my birthdays or otherwise cash.

Obligatory presents such as Christmas, birthday, housewarming, baby shower is something I hate buying and would rather just give cash. Gift cards are terrible because then it's restricted.

I wish transferring someone cash is more acceptable.

Finding a gift that someone would love > giving cash >>>>>> buying a gift card >>>>buying a gift that's not that great

    • I can you too. Probably something to do with the shared Asian heritage

Insurance, car registration, taxes, council rates, miscellaneous bills etc…

    • Shit…

You've reminded me that I have strata and insurance bills to pay off end of this month.

      • But you're just a kid!

Food and Drinks from the movies (due to the insane markup)

  • I hate buying government services, but the ATO forces me to do so.

Bubbletea. Prices are getting ridiculous these days, $6.5+ for a milk tea with pearls? Bruh!

Hospital and extra's cover - now $320 a month and no signs of this madness going to stop.

All kinds of insurances - from CTP, car, building, home contents, landlord, PL/PI right through to workers comp etc…it's madness. Seems like the only one I haven't bought (yet) is income protection.

    • I'm with you there. After all these years I've only just jumped into Hospital cover. Feels like I'm throwing money to the wind.

      • To be fair I’m getting a fair bit back from trips to the dentist and optometrist and if I don’t pay for hospital cover, MLS going to sting me even worse so it’s already the best outcome.

        • True for me too. I had extras and that pays for itself with dental. But to be honest, I don't think I need to go to the dentist yearly. My dentist even agrees. So I'm thinking of dropping extras (after I receive my $400 bonus sign up with HCF).

  • I hate buying Uber eats food when there are no promos but I'm too lazy lol.

  • Bank cheques. What a rip-off. :-(
