[PC, VR] Pistol Whip (Music Rhythm Game) $28.76 (Save 20%) @ Steam

190

Got a notification from price tracker that Pistol Whip is on sale. This is a VR game and will require a VR headset (Oculus, HP Reverb, CV1 or Vive)

Inspired by revered action movies like John Wick and Equilibrium, Pistol Whip stylishly dovetails the pulse-pounding energy of a rhythm game with explosive first-person shooter gameplay. Journey through a cinematic bullet hell powered by a breakneck soundtrack to become the ultimate action hero.

Wear a suit when you play for the ultimate Keanu Reeves experience. Though your Cyberpunk fans might boo you off the stage.

Notes:
Unlike Beat Saber, you can't import your own custom maps, though you can import your own custom soundtracks and re-use any of the existing maps (which in theory, would work if the music you're using has the same tempo as the level was originally designed for).

Also note: do not buy the A$ 41.13 bundle shown on the page. The Soundtrack Vol.1 does not add any content to the game, and is only a digital FLAC copy of the game's soundtrack.

I got the quest native version at last sale. I like it better than beat Sabre, but I do miss custom tracks.

  • So this ain't cross buy? Buying on oculus store gets you the quest and rift version.

Bought this for Quest, great game. Beat Saber with guns.

Looks like it's on sale on the PS4 store for a similar price as well.

Do not hesitate - BUY THIS GAME. This is the VR game I come back to the most

  • Hi VR enthusiasts, if I buy this on my Steam account, will it play on Oculus Quest 2 via link cable or better off getting via oculus store?

I bought the Steam version and plays fine for me via Virtual Desktop (and presumably Link as well but I haven't tried as I like the flexibility of wireless)

Would work well, but I'd recommend doing what I did - purchase on Steam whilst on sale now, but then refund once you know you like it (you will) and purchase on Oculus store. Because the Oculus store version gives you both the Steam PC, higher graphic version as well as a slightly downgraded visually Quest version which can be run entirely standalone on your Quest without your PC on or nearby.

Basically means that you get the best of both worlds and flexibility with your play by purchasing for 20% more on the Oculus store - you essentially get 2 versions of the game for that extra price, which was 100% worth it to me.

      • Slightly confused by your suggestion, but I think I get it. ….

        • Sorry, will try and clarify!

Purchase this on Steam under a discount, try it out and see if you like it.

If you like it, refund it and purchase on the Oculus store - you'll be paying about 25% more, but buying on the Oculus store actually entitles you to two versions of the game - not just the one that a Steam purchase grants.

One version is identical to the Steam version - you run it on your PC, and play by connecting through Link using a cable or wirelessly to your PC. The other version, exclusive to the Oculus store, is a little scaled down graphically (not really an issue when this game is already visually minimalistic) and able to be run completely separately from your PC; you can go on holiday and be isolated with no internet or PC and run it entirely standalone from your PC, on the headset itself.

Hence; paying 25% more for extra flexibility/an extra copy of the game.

          • @Zazer: ahhh ok (Y) , I still dont get it ehehehe no I am kidding bud! I got it :)

      • Why not just buy on oculus to begin with? If don't like it, just submit a refund request. Easy. No need to deal with steam and get both versions

        • Plenty of documented issues with them and their return policy, accounts getting banned for no reason etc - I’d want to save any refunds for Quest exclusives that I have no way to try before I buy. Plus cheaper on Steam to try out since it’s on sale :)

The recent "2089" free storyline is excellent (cheesy) fun too. Highly recommend the game.

  • Bought it, thanks. :)
Love Beat Saber so have high hopes for this.
Might be the first game I'll try out on my new Dell PC 3070 + Reverb G2 combo. :D

  • To anyone looking to buy, go for it! Definitely my fave VR game.
