When Is The Best Time for Getting a New Car Delivery?

So I recently booked a New Car. The car was not in stock so dealer had to organised that from Interstate.

Now I was told today I may come and pick that up on 30th December. I am just checking what would be best to pick up, On schedule date or better some time next year? I don't think so it will make any change in the warranty but still have no clue if that matters or not as this is my first ever brand new car.

Getting recommendation so that I can do accordingly.

Thank you so much.

If it was me, I would pick up on the day (30 Dec), unless you are busy and need to schedule it for another day.

Remember to get your insurance before you drive away from the dealership!!

    • I am not busy but just checking if its okay to pick on the schedule date or better to pick in new year for warranty purpose.

It makes zero difference, warranty starts from when you collect the vehicle and sign the paperwork. The only difference it may make is the potential for it to be damaged sitting in the yard waiting for you to collect it.

        • Good to know. thanks

Warranty starts when the car is licensed and goes in the OP's name

      • if it's a VW product the warranty kicks off the day the car is registered. I'm sure other makes are similar.

My car was registered the 30th June (EOFYS sale with factory cashbacks to the dealer). I couldn't take delivery until the 10/07. The dealer made it quite clear that warranty started on the 30/06.

    • listened you and have decided to pick up on 30 dec.

No difference, but it's a bit of a hassle having to pay the rego and insurance a couple days before a public holiday every year. Five years from now, you'll also have to get a pink slip around the Christmas holiday too.

    • You get the paperwork 5 weeks earlier IIRC. You just get it all done early.

    • But if not 30th then next date is 5th January. can't extend more as not sure if they make my car a demo car for others😂

  • Pink slip?

Pick it up when it's ready so you can just start driving it.

No doubt the dealer will do everything to get you to take delivery anyway, as it then counts towards their December figures

    • Yeah, late month deliveries are good for an extra bit of leverage. Those accessories that were negotiated as part of the deal that aren't in stock and will be fitted at first service all of a sudden come into stock when you tell them you'll pick the car up once they come in and are fitted.

    • The dealer has no issue to deliver this next month on my choice date. Only thing i was checking if that matters usually in terms of warranty etc when can i pick that. Thanks

    • was meant to pick up before Christmas, but car didn't arrived on time. Only advised yesterday its arrived and getting ready for pickup. dealer has no issue if i come and pick it up in first week of January but not sure whether that worth it or not?

  • Don't do it on a saturday or sunday. These are busy days on the forecourt and the sales person will rush the process.

Put aside 2 hours so you can inspect the car and have the sales person point out the features, assist you in connecting phones, etc.

    • Sure will do. taking up on wednesday

  • best time is before u need the car….

  • Best time is a few months away from Christmas holidays. It’s a pain to get the extra bill with all the other holiday season expenses.

      • A few days or a week won’t make any significant difference.
