ShopBack Unauthorised Transactions

Hi everyone,

I just had my card cancelled by my bank as I had 5 $50 Shopback transactions come from my account which I didn't authorise. I don't have my card details linked in my Shopback account either. Their offerings have been getting worse and now that this has happened I'll be closing my account with them immediately.

Just wanted to let people know so they can keep an eye out for any unauthorised transactions on their accounts.

EDIT: Comments below have educated me that while the transactions say Shopback it doesn't actually mean Shopback is at fault (likely due to poor security on my part at some point). Either way lucky the bank picked up on it and stopped the card to prevent further transactions

if you didn't put your details in, it had to come from somewhere else. how is it a shopback problem. they probably bought gift cards.

    • Likely a bit of a knowledge gap from my part here, but as the transactions showed as 'Shopback' wouldn't that mean they're part of a breach of some sort? I figure as you go to their app to then buy something from an online store they would see card information during that process?

The transactions state shopback. you'd have to purchase something directly from shopback for it to state that. unless I'm reading you're post wrong.
they had a breach earlier but since you didn't put your bank details in i can't see how it is caused by the breach

Can you provide evidence that the platform has been compromised and it's not just your poor security or password reuse?

    • Purely that the transactions showed as Shopback on my account. As I said above, might be a lack of knowledge on my part

  • Updated my post to reflect what FSTB and Turn it Out have said. Thanks guys

  • You bought gift cards through Shopback?

    Dear ShopBack Customer,

Several hours ago, we became aware that a party has made available online our customers’ data, which was taken during the unauthorised access to our systems back in September.

I just found my details and wasnt even aware shopback had a breach

    • Not related. This data does not contain any credit card details, and ShopBack does not store your 16-digit card number or CVV on any of our systems. The OP also didn't have their card details on ShopBack.
