  • Is it true 4K or pixel shift?

I also noticed the Epson EH-TW94000 is $3832 at Klapp AV - https://klappav.com.au/products/eh-tw9400-4k-pro-uhd-home-ci…

I think the Epson is a better projector..

      Few $ Cheaper here https://klappav.com.au/collections/projectors/products/w5700…

But yes ,, Epson is far better..

Thanks for the heads up on Klapp…im looking for the TW7100 and they have it at $2119… :)

      • Selby have it for $2499 including 120" screen and roof mount.

        • Thanks…but don't need a new screen or mount :)

        • Woud you say the Epson 7100 is better then BenQ TK850?

    • Got the 7100 prices matched here in WA….but no stock :( but have been offered a 9400 for $3,100………

      • At VideoPro? I asked them if they sell the TK850i and the guy said they sell the tk850 which is the same so not sure how good their knowledge is

        • nope…West Coast Hifi

  • Epson make really good projectors. Their 5040UB was probably the best bang for the buck for '4k' projectors. Not sure if there are any refurbished models around, would still be a decent investment.

BenQ are pretty good too, their w1070 (1080p) was a game changer back in the day.

I'm not sure how much better the new models are, projectors have a lot of limitations especially when it comes to HDR performance, and you can forget about Dolby Vision.

Overall, it seems the projector market has kinda stalled, as with panels. Once 4k (genuine) is affordable, where to then? The quality of good 1080p projectors in a proper HT room rivals the cinema anyway - if not better. In fact my audio is far and away superior.

I got to grow up during the 90s when tech moved, and moved fast. It was exciting, everything going digital, etc. It's like they've reached the peak and are now trying to convince people to upgrade - even if you can't see it with your eyes. Back in the day, you'd walk into a HIFI shop and be blown away when new tech came out. 4k? 8k? On a projector I see the benefit, on panel TV it's marketing, almost no gain. There's only so much they can do with demo HD material and ramming resolution stats down your throat.

Affordable 'genuine' 4k isn't the problem. The technology just isn't capable of high enough contrast and brightness of say 1,000 nits (Dolby Vision actually needs 4,000), so you're never going to get real HDR.

You reckon your home cinema has better audio than a $500k sound system in a cinema? OK.

      • +3

        I'm sure he does…just like I do…..

The cinema has to make the sound fit for the whole room. I can tweak mine to suit 4 seats in a line. Audio in a cinema is now way close to how clear/crisp i have it at home….and the right sub gives you the right base as well.

        • Exactly

        Plenty of Cinemas sound shit

        • Plenty sound amazing.

    • I totally agree with your comment "The quality of good 1080p projectors in a proper HT room rivals the cinema anyway - if not better."

I currently have an old (10yr) TW3000 projecting to a 115in screen…picture wise its still great and upgrading to the TW71000 is not really needed (says the wife ;) ). For me the main benefit of a dedicated HT is the audio…..its helped by a BIG picture, but the audio is what makes the experience.

      • It's because you can sit anywhere you want at home and are close enough to see the detail

There is a sweet spot inside the cinema, but I've also experienced better at home picture quality, especially with 3d, even though the picture was a little darker than optimal.

Why not consider an UST at this price point?

    • -1

Only UST at this price point is xiaomi/wepro. You will need an ALR screen to get the most of it in a bright room which are expensive. In a dedicated room, xiaomi/wepro will never match the contrast and black levels of a Benq/Epson

Meanwhile us Wemax A300 and ALR screen owners laugh at you talking out of your arse…..

        • -1

No tax on laughing or spending more cash than you need to ..nothing stopping you .. Lets see your wemax A300 project a 140 inch picture and that too if you can get a 140 inch ALR screen that is . Not to mention even with an ALR it is too bright on the standard 120 inch in a dark room…everything looks washed out..but hey like I said keep laughing

@shaidas: The W5700 with a pissy 1800 ANSI lumens, sorry but I think you are playing with yourself.
My A300 works very well in a dark room and during the day on the 110" ALR (XY) screen I have.

Like I said, unless you own either, you are talking out of your arse.

            • @Price Jack: Good for you mate..enjoy your home theatre . Hopefully you don't run into trouble with the projector because its not covered by Oz warranty and hopefully you do not want to upgrade from your 110 inch ALR which cost you 1000 plus…I seem to have hit a nerve here which was not my intention but looks like you are impressed by Lumen figures well .. good for you .. to each his own I suppose..I'll keep talking out of my arse and you keep buying what you think is better.. sounds good ? :-D Merry Christmas
