Win a Prize Home?

As usually happens just before Christmas, a spate of Prize Homes have been won from charities such as RSL Art Union, YourTown, Deaf Lottery, Surf Life Saving, Mater and the Endeavour Foundation. Each of these charities lottery off 6-7 houses every year, resulting in around 46 properties in 2020 alone.

Therefore, over the years hundreds of homes have been won and millions given away by Lotto each week, but who is it all going to?
Do you know somebody who has actually won a house, prize car or Lotto?

  • I know 2 people that have won prize homes. They won about 2 years apart.
The most recent was about 2-3 months ago, and he's going to move to the house he won for a while and I think plans to eventually sell it.

I've posted this to try to start a debate about how random are these lotteries or do certain districts win more often?
Were the two people in the same area and where was it?

Both from the same city, both used to work with me but quit.
One of them was still in communication with me and other people I still work with. The other one came back to visit (gloat that he won).
Both of them are fairly old too.

I think it might be speak more to the type of people that buy tickets in these lotteries.

This is what has intrigued me for many years about all these lotteries, a lot of the population have bought millions of tickets and hundreds of homes/ millions $$$ have been won, but very few it seems, know any winners.
I appreciate winners would likely keep it quiet, but their extended family and close friends (like happened to you) would find out.
I ask most people if they know anyone who has won and they say no.

How many worked at your place?
How far apart did the two winners live from each other?

  • Do they really sell enough tickets to cover the cost of the home?

    • Yes, the charities make millions on top of what the houses cost.

Take for instance Mater's latest prize home T&C's- Mater Foundation Ltd as trustee for Mater Foundation is permitted to sell up to 6,005,000 tickets in this lottery."
Tickets are $2 each so that's potential takings of $12,011,000 and most of these prize home lotteries do sell all the tickets.

      • Very interesting. Thanks for sharing.

  • Lots of these are put on the market by people who "OMG, I never thought I'd win" and they sell at a "loss" because
"Lottery" Home. Otherwise you could Rent it or even live in it.

    But no, haven't won.

If I ever win any of these things I certainly wouldn't go around telling everyone.

  • I have tickets in them all, started a few motnhs ago. Have reduced monthly spend on each . I like the 2 hospital research foundation, Melbourne and Adelaide. Tickets $100 each but theres heaps of prizes and 2 prize homes a draw. won a $100 Bunnings voucher on my first go. You get cashback on RSL tcikets and maybe another one at shopback etc. I always join VIP club to get extra draws.

    • That's the thing with these draws, you can soon start going from a $10 spend to $100+ spend hoping it will increase your chances and over the years you're in for $1000's that many people probably can't afford.

    • I have reduced most to near minimum. But I am going to buy the $100 tickets in the hospital lotteries.I cut right back on lotto etc while dong this

  • Automatically buy tickets…have for years… never won a thing or known anyone that has

    • Do you check your numbers against the winning ones?
I check mine and invariably find my numbers are no where near, and often have fewer or more numbers in total than the winner which has always puzzled me.

  • Someone from Perth WA will be glad they bought a ticket or tickets in the RSL Art Union lottery drawn 23 December. A record $8.5m prize.
