  • How did you find out about OZB?

    • My son gets his daily emails and was looking at it, when I asked what he was reading he didn’t want to share as ‘I too may get hooked’!

  • When you're older, if you had a choice, would you yourself go into aged care as it is now? Some specific ones, or none? Why?

    • Good question, I ask my students often if they would move into a facility and none of them say they would move into one! I think a lot of it depends on family. In some families (mostly foreign) it is expected you look after your elders. I grew up knowing that my Mum did not want to move in with any of her 3 girls when the time came. I think I would do the same. I would want home help snd when it’s time and I can’t look after myself I would be happy to move into one…. I would want to live close to family so they could visit.

  • Welcome!

  • What does the average non medical person get paid per hour in aged care?

    • Between 22-30 hr depending if you are casual or permanent. Maybe up to 35 in disability’s.

      • That's outrageous considering what you might have to do in that hour, wiping poo, cleaning, lifting, keep client feeling social etc. Should be more than that or the job should come with other benefits.

        • Yes I agree! They don’t get paid well at all!

  • Welcome. Do you enjoy working in aged care? I have always thought if my career becomes stressful enough that'd be an option. I guess to an extent you could get used to the yuck bits, and it is in some ways quite a meaningful job where how you perform affects the happiness of some of the most vulnerable.
