Sony XAV-AX1000 Head Unit in 2010 Toyota Camry

I bought a Sony XAV-AX1000 head unit to fit in my 2010 Camry.

This is the stock head unit in the Camry right now. I was just told I may need a facia for it to fit and also extra cables to get the steering wheel controls working - something like this.

I talked to Autobarn and was quoted $350 to get the head unit installed with a reverse camera. Not sure if this worth or not, but seems like an okay price.

Has anyone ever had any experience installing a similar head unit in their Camry? Would appreciate any advice. Cheers

  • There are so many videos on YouTube showing you how to install them. Not difficult at all, just a matter of whether you have time to do it yourself or rather pay someone to do it for you. Like most things.

Also, get other quotes. I was quoted $200 for an FJ although didn't include rear cam installation.

    • I'd much prefer an aftermarket deck in the FJ. Besides the convenience, I reckon the stock one needs to angle up a bit to suit the lines of the dash, something you could do with an aftermarket

Absolutely. I'm at a crossroads at the moment on whether I spend thousands doing up the FJ or actually trade it in for something new and more modern… Tough call as love it & it's offroad capability, but it's so outdated and barebones nowadays.

Now would be the time, can probably sell it for what you paid for it new, it's a bit crazy.

        • Toyota FJ has the type that is super easy. Don't even need fascia can go straight for aftermarket ones that suit Toyota 200mm.

Makes zero sense to upgrade a car just for infotainment.

Based on a lot of posts on here, it seems many people think that’s what needs to be done.

    • I was looking at a few videos but I didn't know how difficult it may be. Does seem easy enough though.

    Few bits and pieces needed

The reverse Camry would add to the labour if they're running the wire through the car.

Get a 2nd quote, but I'm sure they won't be too different

    • Ah yeah I wasn't sure if they would provide those parts in the quote or not. I should probably check that with them. Hopefully they aren't too expensive

      • Quote should be inclusive
