Digital compact camera with fairly high optical zoom

  Panasonic TZ20, Canon SX230 - import from Hong Kong is much cheaper than here.

    thanks maybeamacy. I'm after something like nikon l120. any recommendations?

    EDIT: actually i rather like the lumix you mentioned. will try to get my hands on one. don't buy them off ebay?

    EDIT: by the way, do you think nikon l120 is a good camera? i don't know much about cams but by the look of it nikon has a bigger lens. Means better quality pics yeah?

      I had the predecessor, the TZ10 and loved it but sold it but I sold it to upgraded to a SLR.

      You can buy off ebay but just don't expect any warranty (not sure how good warranty services are with grey-importers anyway).

      I was never into the larger types of non-changeable lens cameras so I can't comment on that sorry.

      On a side note, when looking at the compacts when I purchased the TZ10 both Canon & Panasonic were made in Japan while the Nikon in China if you prefer Japanese builds.

        Nikon is made in china???? Geez, i didn't know that, alright then it's a no no. I saw some TZ20s on ebay under $300 which well fits in my budget. Will try to find someone whose selling aus stock rather than grey import. Thanks for your help maybeamacy.

  How much do you want to spend? The Canon SX40HS is expensive but is pretty awesome - 35x zoom!

    I'm trying to stay under $300 honestly. This canon looks great though.
